C-Murder appeals for new murder trial

#1
Corey Miller (aka C-Murder, brother of Master P), who was convicted in 2003 of killing a sixteen year old boy, has filed for a new trial with the Louisiana Supreme Court.

The move is an appeal to the Supreme Court regarding a previous ruling by the Fifth Circuit of Appeals which, in March of 2005, denied Miller the right to another trial. If the Supreme Court does not overrule the decision, Miller is certain to face life imprisonment.

The request for a new trial originates from prosecutors allegedly withholding information that indicated key witnesses possessed criminal records. But in 2004 a panel of judges outvoted the allegation two to one, with Sol Gothard and Clarence McManus writing “there was an abundance of other evidence which fully established Miller’s guilt.”

The case stems from an incident on January 12th 2002, when sixteen year old Steven Thomas was beaten, shot and killed outside of Platinum Club in Harvey, Louisiana. Master P rallied behind his brother saying, “It’s a shame that they’re trying an innocent man. There’s no way my brother did what they said he did.”

The outcome of the appeal is pending.
