Booze ban of tranport

Banning people drinking on public transport is another example of "nanny state politics", according to the Tories.

The Government plans to outlaw boozing on trains, buses and possibly domestic flights in a bid to crack down on binge drinking.

The idea is designed to stop drunken yobs terrorising passengers. But it would also stop ordinary travellers enjoying a drink with their meals.

The proposal has been drawn up by Tony Blair's "Respect Unit".

But Shadow Culture Secretary Theresa May has criticised the plans.

She said: "Alcohol-fuelled violence on trains and on other public transport is caused by people drinking too much in pubs and clubs.

"The news of these proposals is very surprising and seems like another example of the Labour nanny state going completely over the top."

The alcohol ban is apparently one of several policies aimed at tackling binge drinking and anti-social behaviour.

Advisers have also proposed introducing respect "sheriffs" so each community had a "visible local figure accountable for respect".

A Home Office spokesman said: "As part of the respect agenda we are considering a whole range of proposals.

"Nothing has been ruled in or out at this stage. A paper will be published shortly outlining our proposals."


This a daft idea, most people drink before they even get on a plane/train! What do you think? Should drinking on transport be banned?

some of those people do not know when to stop. i bet drunk travelers are bigger problem than you might think. it's not fair to those who dont have a problem, but it only takes a few bad apples to spoil the whole bunch.

To be honest i see the goverments point. If peeps wanna get pissed before they get on a flight or train thats fine, but it really fucks me of when im on a train and some lager louts are acting like a bunch of tits!! your always wondering if shits away to kick off. If your on a long jounney at least they wont be getting more tanked up.

Yes, but that doesn't mean it's a bad idea to outlaw drinking on public transports.
