Read that. Its something about black women in Mali (Africa) using creams to lighten their skin color. The creams won't "make them white," but it lightens the skin to a certain extent.

I find it embarassing as a black person and its a shame as if people are trying to run from your race. I know white people try to tan all the time but that's something else and its a totally different situation.

One lady, when asked why she uses these creams, says that:

The creams make her white, and impart a certain charm.

What a damn shame..

Btw, I know the story is from 2000.

i remember the source or xxl doing a small article on this. see what wacko jacko has done?
it's really big in africa, they have billboards with light colored africans selling this shit. its bleaching cream really. one of the people in the article i read said it burns the skin. it's werid how there are white people who try to act ghetto and walk around saying they are a black person trapped in a white persons body. down there they have the same kind of people doing the same thing just the exact opposite.

Makes me think of how apparently in Indian culture - it's a case of the whiter the better. I agree with Pennypacker, I think its a shame. I've started to notice more African migrants now that I study in the city, many of which of have very dark skin and I think they look absolutely gorgeous as they are. In a sense I suppose you could liken it to any of the techniques men or women undertake to deny their natural characteristics and like any of those techniques it's all superficial and unnecessary.

You just noticed this Pennypacker?

This kind of thing has been around for a long time now - & I mean way before 2000.

only because mostly thrid world countries are indoctrinated to thinking "the White man" is superior, if any of you white people have been to any of these countries you would be treated like royalty and no matter what your always right.

But, on the other hand you got a million white mufuckaz tryna be black, not just tanned, but the whole sh-bang, haha its funny, i knew a white dude that used to wake up every morning and pull at his lips, and he told me this shit, so i asked him, yo, why the fuck you pullin at yo lips fo? he said cause i wanted fatter lips like you. aww you see that people, just like me, now you see what just happened there, mufucka was out his mind wit blackness, cause i said, so what Mick Jagger got bigger lips than any black man i know and he still white as shit, HOLLA ATCHA BOY!!

As a Black female on tupacboard, and perhaps the only Black female on tupacboard :(

I must say that in most cultures (not just in Africa) fairer skin is seen as more attractive.

I personally do not buy into this theory being the sexy caramel complected sister that I am, I am more than enthused to have a beautiful tan year round, unfortunately, alot of people do not feel the same way that I do.

And this goes for Black people in general as well as other minorities who tend to be darker complected.

I have friends of Indian as well as Latin decent who have told me similar stories, that it's better to be fairer and have lighter colored eyes and whatnot.

This is something that goes back into the historical ways of thinking and unfortunately, these views still last today :(

That's my official deep thought for the day :D

I heard the same story about cream but for df reasons and theres even a few guys i know who use it here and they are pro black like to the max.(saying in the sense that they believe they are the greatest race about)

see what wacko jacko has done?

The creams that these people use could never make them white regardless of how much they use. Similarly, there's no surgery of any kind that can make you white. On the other hand, a destructive disease named Vitiligo very much will destroy your pigmentation (even if you're white).

Please don't let the ignorance keep you from learning about Vitiligo.

No, I learned about it a year or two ago.
