Rapper Big Hawk, a member of DJ Screw’s Screwed Up Click and brother to late rapper Fat Pat, was shot to death Monday night outside of a home in Houston, Texas.

The artist, born John Edward Hawkins, was fired upon several times at the side of the house where he was due to meet up with a friend. Police have no suspects, but their lone witness saw a white compact car with tinted windows nearby shortly after the shooting, police spokesman John Cannon said.

Hawk, 36, was well known in Houston’s underground hip hop arena. His 2001 self-titled album reached No. 45 on Billboard's rap chart, and a 2002 single, "You Already Know", was a regional hit. He appeared on several mixtapes with artists such as Paul Wall, Lil' Flip, Z-Ro, E.S.G, Lil' Keke and Big Pokey.

Hawk’s late brother, Fat Pat, was killed in 1998.
