*Beyonce Knowles has given her manager/father Mathew Knowles his walking papers amidst charges of harassment from one of her dancers, according to sources. Meanwhile, contacts close to his label Sanctuary Urban Records Group say Mathew has been AWOL from the office for about a month, leaving the imprint in complete disarray and its parent company Sanctuary in charge of day-to-day decisions.
Gossip maven Wendy Williams mentioned an alleged affair between Mathew and the dancer on her WBLS radio show earlier this week. Sources have since confirmed to EUR that Beyonce fired Mathew as her manager upon learning of the allegations. This inferred adultery is the latest in a series of infidelity rumors that have been reported about the
businessman for years.
Knowles began managing his daughter in the early nineties during the formation of Destiny’s Child with Beyonce, her cousin Kelly Rowland and their friends LaTavia Roberson and LeToya Luckett. Much was made of his decision to quit his job so that he could steer the group full time, but his smothering style was too much for D.C. members Roberson and Luckett, who left the quartet in 2000 after a much-publicized falling out with Knowles. The singers filed a lawsuit against Mathew and the remaining members of the group citing shady business practices – including breach of partnership and breach of fiduciary duties. (They later dropped the portion of the suit directed toward Beyonce and Kelly in exchange for a
settlement.)
Knowles’ questionable business tactics and current month-long absence are also said to be hindering progress at Sanctuary Urban. Sanctuary Group CEO, Merck Mercuriadis handpicked Mathew in 2003 to oversee the label – which has among its forthcoming summer album releases Ray J’s “Raydiation” on June 28; Keith Sweat’s “Grown & Sexy” on July 26 and the soundtrack for the Fox film “Roll Bounce” on Aug. 23.
Workers at the troubled label were made to sign confidentiality agreements earlier this week that forbids the discussion of Knowles or his current situation. However, a source close to the company told EUR that his latest alleged indiscretion could cause permanent damage to the imprint, not to mention his marriage and relationship with Beyonce.
“Mathew is not in picture anymore. They don’t know where he is,” said a source. “From a bottom line financial point of view, Sanctuary Urban can’t last.”
