Non-Urban Music Best Guns N Roses album?

#1
well i'm in a Guns mood today lol. so i know we have at least one GNR fan here other than myself, any more? just wondering what your favorite Guns album is? imo the Use Your Illusion albums were their best work, but my favorite album will always be Appetite For Destruction. even 20 years later the album is as good now as it was then. this is one of the few albums i own where there isn't a single skipper on the whole album. so anyone else? Casey can't be the only other Guns fan, let's see some love for GNR!

Appetite.

UYI 1&2 are OK.......not raw enough as a whole tho, altho November Rain is the shiznit.

It's all about Chinese Democracy.

what about Chinese Democracy? that wannabe GNR album is never gonna come out, and if it actually does it's just gonna be Axl and some losers who think they can redo what has already been done by a far better band. Axl is not Guns N Roses. Axl, Slash, Duff, Izzy and Steven (and Matt Sorum and Dizzy Reed and Gilby Clarke too) were GNR, but now Guns is dead and Axl can call his band whatever he wants, but it will never be the same. he can't even keep a band together long enough to finish one album lol.

i agree with you about UYI 1 and 2, overall it lacked the intensity and rawness of Appetite, but at the same time i felt the songwriting was much, MUCH improved. to be honest tho, i've always felt that the album would have been better as one instead of 2, but it would be so hard to narrow down which songs would be on it, they are all pretty good lol.

Line-up wise, well what are you gonna do?

I'd take the 'new' GnR ANY DAY over that crapfest Velvet Revolver.

Have you even heard the Chinese Democracy leaks? The songs are fucking KILLER. The title track, Better, and Madagascar alone are up there with anything Guns have ever done.

well that's your opinion. they aren't terrible, but they aren't great either. nothing i've heard from the numerous leaks over the years sounded as good to me as anything the original GNR did. although on the "it's never coming out" front, i may be wrong on that. my sister told me the other day that she heard on the radio that the album has finally been submitted to the record company and now they are trying to figure out how to market it. so i may have to eat those words. but it will never be the same. he has every right to use the name, but i don't think he should, because it is not Guns N Roses. that would be like Mick Jagger putting a new band together tomorrow with all different guys and calling it the Rolling Stones. you're not fooling anyone Axl.

oh and don't get me started on Stone Temple Roses (that's what i call Velvet Revolver), i hate those guys too. but i can at least respect what they're doing. i don't have much respect left for Axl these days, since he was the catalyst that broke up one of my all time favorite rock bands. his dictatorial style is what fucked things up in the first place, and it's been fucking him up with this album for years now. why do you think he can't get a band to stay around long enough to record an album?

You're insane if you don't think those three songs I mentioned are amazing songs. The production, songwriting, everything is on point. I think you may be blinkered since you obviously have a problem with Axl.

This is true, I have a friend at Geffen/Interscope who confirmed the album was done, basically they are trying to figure out some deals before it gets released. I wouldn't put money on it, but there's a strong chance it will come out this summer.

How is he trying to fool anyone? I don't have a problem with him using the name, the only people that do are living in the past. If Slash, Duff, Izzy and Matt (not Steven Adler, he's fucked in the head) wanted their due so hard, they would fight for the name and association, but the simple fact is that they don't care, they have their own shit going on.

Izzy still plays with Axl a fair amount, he just doesn't want to be a full time member. Slash doesn't care, he just wants to live an easy life (and needs to now that he had that heart regulator installed).

I'd like to see Duff back, but I don't get the impression he cares much about it either, and as for Matt Sorum, he never really gave a shit in the first place, he only stepped in because Axl fired Steven for being too much of a junkie.

And Dizzy Reed has been in the band since UYI.

Respect what they're are doing? WTF does that mean? The two VR albums are complete and utter garbage. As much as I love Slash and Izzy, VR came on TV the other day for a live performance at some festival.....I couldn't even pay attention, I changed the channel, it sucked serious ass.

I could give a shit about people and their personalities. That's not what music is about. I care about good music, and the new GNR are making good music......VR aren't.

well i guess i must be insane because i just wasn't feeling them. maybe you're right, i am biased against Axl, but i tried to be open minded when i listened to the tracks. it just didn't sound the same to me, that's really what i mean. good, bad or otherwise, it didn't sound like GNR to me. that band had a signature sound, and the "new" Guns just doesn't have that imo.

what i mean by fooling people is that by calling his new band Guns N Roses, people will have expectations of what the band should be, what they should sound like. the fans, the true fans know what GNR sounds like, and i think most of them know these new songs dn't sound like that at all. is he trying to fool anyone? maybe not, but he is trying to relive history with a band that imo is inferior to the original, and the fans know it. look, to me, any band is bigger than just one person. you can replace one or 2 people from the band but you can't get rid of the entire band and expect things to be the same. the heart of the band has changed too much for me. but hey, if you like the new stuff, then good for you. it's just not for me.

as for what i said about Velvet Revolver, i respect them because they're doing their own thing, they aren't trying to be Guns N Roses or Stone Temple Pilots all over again, they are what they are. and i can respect that more than i can respect what Axl's doing. but they do suck. you may not give a shit about people's personalities, but i do, especially when i'm paying money to buy an album and supporting them.

i felt the same way about The Doors. when they got back together a few years ago with a new singer and drummer, i hated the fact that they were still calling it The Doors cuz without Jim Morrison and John Densmore it just isn't the same. and i'd feel the same way if Slash, Izzy, Duff and Matt started a band with a new singer and called it Guns N Roses. it wouldn't be the same. put it this way: if Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl decided to hire a new singer and continue Nirvana after Kurt died, would it have been the same? no. face it, the only reason he wants to use the name is to try and tread off the success of it. to me, that's wrong. but then again Axl has always rubbed me the wrong way. even when i loved GNR it still pissed me off that Axl couldn't even respect his fans enough to show up for concerts on time.
