This just got released on DVD, I know it leaked a couple a weeks ago, and last I checked. You can probably watch the whole thing on Youtube.
It's a compliation of 6 short stories, mostly 12-15 minutes long tops, in anime.
Some of the stories are pretty good, I liked alot of the styles they would add for Batman/Bruce Wayne and they actually got Kevin Conroy. Who has voiced Batman in almost all animated incarnations of the character since the early 90's animated series. To voice Batman/Bruce Wayne in all six shorts, that's was a wise decision. I'll break down each story and tell you give my own review.
"Have I Got A Story For You" Is about young skaters who tell each other of their seperate encounter with Batman. I 've seen this done before on the actual Batman animated series, and it was done MUCH better, so I personally didn't care for this story at all.
"Crossfire" Is about 2 Gotham detectives escorting a prisoner to the new Akrham Asslyum, which if you recall from Batman Begins is now the other side of Gotham that was "quarantined" off, that side is now full of crazies. Well one detective sees the good Batman is doing, while the other sees him as a vigilante. Towards the end one happens to have a change of heart. I sort of liked this one, especially the animation towards the end sequence, it was pretty sweet.
"Field Test" is probably the second or third best story here. Bruce Wayne tests out this new bullet-defelcting thingy-mcjiggy, courtesy of Morgan Free... I mean Lucius Fox.
"In Darkness Dwells" this is also my second or third favorite, I can't decide which. Batman goes in search of the Scarecrow deep in Gothma's sewer system, to look for a kidnapped Cardnial, and also has a brief encounter with Killer Croc. The animation is pretty awesome in the short, and the story is surprisingly well done, I also give points because they actually set up a way for Killer Croc to work in Nolan's Batman universe, it's totally possible.
"Working Through Pain" is mostly a Bruce Wayne backstory involivng flashbacks, it starts with Batman severely wounded, and going back and forth with showing him how to learn to manage pain. It was alright.
"Deadshot" now this is the best short out of the bunch, it's slick, awesome and visually arresting. It has Batman going up against an assassin by the name Deadshot. Fantastic animation.
There were a couple of things I don't like, every story is too short. I would have liked it if they had gone on more, because some of them are over just as they seem to start getting good, and I was really confused, because some of them try and seem like they are connected to Nolan's universe, but you find yourself saying "wtf? no, no, no." I just shrugged it off after a while. All in all it's pretty solid, and the entire compliation is 75 minutes long, I would suggest checking it out, especially if your excited about what's approaching in the coming weeks
