The thread took a weird turn, like most of them do. It was about religious people being ignorant about others religions and how Atheists know even more. Obviously, it's gonna come down to a religion VS Atheism thread, fine - we're in WoW; it's the place for it. Somehow it took an off turn about homosexuals.

If you want to talk about homosexuality, make a thread asking - 'Homosexuality, to be or not to be?'

Then people can plead their case, no matter how genius or stupid it may be.

I just thought this was an interesting topic because it's an angle not often spoken about (around here at least).

I never said everyone on earth deserves equal rights. I feel like you're going to bring up convicted rapists, child murderers, Republicans and the like. But why wouldn't every law-abiding citizen, regardless of their color, sexual orientation, or gender, deserve equal rights? There's no reason you could give.

In a couple of decades, people will look back at at this time and how gay people had lesser rights, and just think how backwards society was at this time, the same way we look at how backwards it was for ethnic minorities to not have rights in the 60's in the US, and things like apartheid in South Africa. Same shit.

A person lying to themselves because being gay carries a big stigma and only later admitting to being gay is quite different from "becoming gay". Have you ever met or heard of a person who felt sexually attracted to the opposite sex and then later on in life suddenly became attracted to the same sex? Or vice versa. Just because a person chooses to enter in heterosexual relationship doesn't mean they're straight. I know 2 people who had a wife and children and only later on in life had the courage to admit to themselves (and others) that they were gay. Always had been but they couldn't face it. Being gay or being straight has to do with your sexual preference, it's not an action, it's how you feel. In the same way that the men/women who rape other men/women in prison aren't necessarily gay.

But maybe instead of a lecture you can explain your point of view on homosexuality/bisexuality. The thread has been derailed anyway.

I know someone who was a baptist minister and fought hard against his homosexuality. Excuse the pun. He had a wife and 3 kids. He eventually came out. He was always gay but his bible teaching and the stigma attached to it made him fight against it.

Of course the loving Christian Church turned their back on him. As they did to his family who were, if anything, victims.

Find me some SOLID evidence of someone randomly changing their sexuality and we can continue this discussion. Unfortunately for you, there is none.

I always went through life believing that it has not been proven yet whether sexuality is determined at birth or something one "grows", for lack of a better world, into. There are probably studies where a majority of homosexuals report being homosexual from day one but I don't think that's proof of anything. I think there are political and socioeconomic gains to having that belief be the dominant perspective. It's important for gay rights for everyone to think that but I haven't been convinced yet. It doesn't bother me a bit if sexuality is determined at birth or if a person "becomes" gay at a sudden age. For me, personally, it doesn't make my predispositions to gay rights any different.

I haven't done much research but i really haven't seen anything saying gay people are gay from birth, just homo's who say they've always known. Never saw anything saying there was a gay gene.


Of course I wen to the trusty google and first thing that came up was "Science vs Gay Gene". i realized I didn't have to read any further, there is no proof

Apart from that, I think the notion that people "choose" their sexuality is absolutely ludicrous. If there is indeed such a "choice" being made, then it takes place on some deep subconscious level that we can't influence.
