i haven't heard Ai Du, but i listen to alot of africano. Being a salsa dancer it helps to know africano music and be able to dance to that.
I also listen to cuban africano which has a latin american twist to it. It's absolutely awesome.

You can't really put him in a category. He does his own thing. He's a guitarist. His music is a cross between American blues and the Arabic-influenced Malian sound. Mali.

Another good Mali guitarist is Lobi Traoré. Worth looking for his stuff.

By the way, "ai du" can be heard in the movie "Unfaithful" from 2002 with Richard Gere.
