Pretty sure Jokerman will have some interesting words to say here, but maybe someone else will surprise me by kicking some facts here. So let's discuss Rand, Objectivism, Individualism, Nietzche, etc.

Spurred on by reading this article.

Rand interests me because her views are essentially the polar opposite of not only my personality and choices but also the things that I find to bring happiness. At the same time I see the logical thinking of her ideas and I see why it would fascinate some people and lead them down that road. But frankly, to try and follow that idealism you'd be willingly making yourself a colder and more emotionless person. No wonder so many politicians appreciate her.

Secondary discussion - how many of her ideas were simply retreads of things Nietzsche already said?

Her name has been brought up everywhere but I never really looked into her writing. I know that most writing (liberal) that I read tends to be dismissive of her.
