Can we make it so the avatar limit will be something like 20KB (75 by 75) instead of 9.8 KB? these compressed avatars make the site look like shit.

People seem to make do fine with the size limit it is now. If you want to post bigger images, you have the gallery or your profile pic as options.

just save your images in a better program that limits the color profile.

any photoshop-like application will give you a bunch of different alternatives to choose from when it comes to the quality of your saved image. for instance, you can set the compression ratio of your jpg anywhere on a scale from like 1 to 50. that should help.
