Film & TV Avatar

Man, the effects are mind blowing, but don't act like that story hasn't been told at least a thousand times before.

well.. it's a generic story which I think was devised so that more people could relate to it and understand it to broaden the appeal of the movie. he spent a lot on making this film.. it was an investment which needed to be recouped.. and that may be jeapordised if he made a very complicated plot. i think he struck a good balance in appeasing to the general crowd, but also including many things which will slip by most people.

there's a reason why people see it more than once and pick up on things which they didn't previously.

well, it just won the golden globe for best pic. that doesn't mean anything to me. it still looks like (not visually) crap to me.

It's not crap.

It's very good.

I'm going to see it again on Thursday.

I saw it Friday night IMAX.

I totally loved it. I think the storyline was good. It's generic, predictable but anything more complex would have ruined the flow of the movie. Titanic was a pretty generic love story too and nobody complained.

The effects are amazing. I have yet to see the movie non-IMAX to see the difference. But in the IMAX version it was fabulous.

So yeah now I understand why people keep going to see it over and over again.

I'll see this in the biggest Imax here in DMR 3D next Tuesday. Getting tickets to see this is close to impossible. People are insane while booking tickets - right now it's impossible to find any for january and most tickets for early february are 1st and 2nd rows only.
I was lucky to get these tickets - in the middle of 5th row. I sense that it'll be epic.

I saw Avatar today in 3D.

I realized 4 things whilst watching the movie.

1. I don't have a top 3 movies list like most people do.
2. The movie is too damn long and it moves slow in the beginning.
3. Even if I did have a top 3 movies list, Avatar would nowhere be near it.
4. The story line is TOO predictable.

The movies visual effects and etc were amazing but the actual movie itself was eh. Don't get me wrong, it was a good movie, but that's about all it does for me.

I personally like Ratatouille more than I liked this movie.
Glad I saw it though, wanted to see what the hype was about.

I agree with you on all 4 points but Avatar has changed the way films are made. Kinda like The Wizard of Oz. The movie was awful but it changed film forever and thats why people are giving Avatar massive props. Its not for being the greatest movie ever or anything.

By the way, for all who have seen the film, how much was your ticket?

Here, for IMAX 3D, it's $17.50.

MOTHAFUCK!

I saw it in this biggest IMAX 3D last week.
It was okay but I think I expected too much because of this hype. 3d image was sometimes not as sharp as I expected. Blurring was too annoying in faster action scenes and I had to move my head a lot to see the whole screen even though I was in 5th row or so.
It was too slow at times, some scenes were pointless but then these last action scenes were pretty epic if it comes to visuals.
The story was a bit dumb but hey, that's a mainstream movie for everyone made to earn heavy cash.
