Are politicians the funniest people on the earth?

I find myself saying "what the fuck are these people going on about?" Jibberish!

Do they actually know how it feels to be really poor?
Do they know how it feels to grow up in a broken home?
Do these people understand?
Do these people actually go out into those regions that need help and check out whats going on instead of watching it unfold on their t.v screens? Which are probably plasma.
Do they just read a book on how to deal with poor people, crime, families etc?

Then they pass these legislations for this and that and they say it's for the 'good' of the country whcih fucks up things for normal people just living their lives.

Get up off your asses and stop reading these books that were written by people like yourselves.

Seeing as most of us live in democracies, we determine who our politicians are... so if policies and legislation dont accurately reflect a situation, who is really to blame - the politicians or the public who vote for them? It is easy to blame politicians because they are in positions of power, but the so-called 'normal' people put them there as their representatives. So if we really want people to get of their arses and do something constructive, how about everyone pick up a book read something about politics, get involved or simply make voting decisions based on fact and knowledge rather than propaganda and election bluff.

I see what you mean and I kind of expected to get this response from someone. I guess what I was trying to say (in a miserable attempt) is that I wanna look at someone within the government and somewhow relate to him/her you know? Make me feel like this person really cares for the people. Who speaks at our level while still having the class to step up his/her game when other politicians throw all this jargon at him/her.

But maybe that kind of person only exist amoungst 'the crowd'.

I know I would rather guzzle a beer after work than attend meetings in a suit. I guess this is all 'Willy Wonka talk'. A fantacy in my head that I would like to come true.

I can understand that, and looking at the politicians in Australia at the moment it is hard to relate, find some deeper connection, or have faith in their direction. John Howard and Kim Beazley seem to fall so short of the mark in my opinion... at the moment, although I'm too young to recall many other Prime Ministers, the attempts at empathy are so lack lustre and false. To be honest, I would rather have Paul Keating or Gareth Evans step up to the plate... I believe they would have that emotional connection with the public that you are speaking about....(and I'm not even a Labor supporter).

They don't know what's going on, or they don't care, but it's probably both.
Voting don't make a difference because the poor are a minority and the majority don't give a shit about them so no one who REALLY cares is ever going to get elected, so the only thing you can do is to get into politics yourself but if you're poor you aint had a good enough eduction so your fucked in that way. But if you do manage to have a good education, you then have to dedicate your life to it to get anywhere and who wants to do that?, and that is why I have the upmost respect for people throughout history who have given their life to help the poor and make a difference in all areas:thumb:

Politics ain't something I talk about much at all. To be honest I try and stay away from the topic, as well as religion issues because there's just so many opinions and views on either subject that we tend to go through that same ol' cycle and 360 our ass back to the start. I only started this thread because I bottled up this 'picture' of politicians and seeing that me and my mates won't discuss this while having a beer, I thought I vent it out here. But yeah thats all I wanted to say. Thank you for your input.

What if we say that, that common person who ran the country was the 'heart' so to speak of the whole operation and his team members were the 'brains'. They both could (or try to) meet half way with issues and solutions. You'll have the personal and political view.
