yeah.. i do... House is just starting to pick up again.. electro has moved onto indy and alot of french stuff.. Electro has sort of lost it's way over the past 2 years.
Deep will never make it onto the main stream
Breaks had it's short lived life
Tech/Minimal is what electro was 4 years ago... and what Indy/French Electro was last year... I'm hoping it doesn't go down the same track these genres did.
Prog won't come back... but it's influence is still strong in every genre of music.

Next set i'm doing is going to be very electro-y so keep an eye out on the Salars Weekly mix thread:
http://www.streethop.com/forums/dont-stop-the-music/t-salars-weekly-mixs-59835.html

First mix i posted was deep
Second is a mix of genres ranging from electro, deep and house and everything else
Third was all deep

All have major fuck ups in them so none of them are perfect. Next one i do should be very electro-esque.. club music stuff..

you're definitely right about electro losing its way...most of the clubs up here (syd) are playing techy/minimal shit whereas this time a year ago electro was all they'd play. funny how there are so many sub-genres within dance music and, like you say, they are constantly changing and going in cycles. at the moment im loving the french electro shit (ed banger records) and there are alot of good sydney dj's killing it on the tech minimal front.

what do you mean by deep?

that's sick you have that thread... i'll definitely check back there. i didnt think anyone on these boards was in to electronic music.

also, salar, funny i made this thread... i'm actually coming down to melbourne tomorrow, haha. me and a mate are driving down for the weekend to check out the clubbing scene and hit up some bars, restaurants and shops. only thing is, we have no idea where to go. i mean obviously you have 'famous' and 'onelove' down there, both of which are weekly club nights in sydney as well, so we can always go there. but we kinda wanted to check out some nights we havent been to before... any recommendations? we're staying in st. kilda.

also, is it true most of the good venues areen't even in the cbd (or closely surrounding areas)?? ive been down to melb a couple of times when i was a bit younger and from what i've noticed/heard most of the good places are outside of the cbd, around areas such as st kilda, prahran, etc.

please hook me up with any info you haved. thanks dude.

Dude... give me a call (pm'ed you my number) i'll take you out on saturday night to a few joints.

Well i'm so over the french electro thing... and yeah sydneys grabbing onto it for dear life. Ajax and his crew are absolutely killing it. Juggernaughts, VanSheTech and all those guys are absolutely slaughtering it around. But last year i remember i'd play a Ed Banger track (like Waters Of Nazareth) and everyone would be like what the fuck.. and now that everyones jumped on the bandwagon it's just like.. oh fuck.. over it.
Electro has just gone...

Right now my love is Minimal and Tech.. i still play everything else but minimal and tech are just too good. And Deep House is like your classic Ben Watt and stuff. Deep house was frowned upon a few years back but it's slowly making its way back up. It's soulful shit... Alot of Bookashade is deep tech.. Ben watt is deep house..
Check out the following songs
Ame - Rej
Abyss - Mind Games
Ben Watt - Just a Blip

But there's different sorts of deep. you can have deep tech, deep prog, deep house, deep electro etc... it's very weird..
like tech itself has so many sub genres... or prog has so many sub genres..

I want to do a drum n bass gig as well.. love my dnb.

Anyway i'm PMing you my number. i'll take you to this one place that'll blow your mind (tech night)

Don't look at onelove now.. onelove 4 years ago was just sweeeeet. Famous was really good the first 2 weeks.. then it just attracted a very bad crowd. Melbournes about the smaller clubs. And what you heard isn't really true. anyway give me a buzz and we'll go out and about.. i'll show you around.

I'm not much of a clubbing type guy, but I do like my fair share of electro punch. I love proper techno (Carl Cox, Pete Tong), electro drum-n-bass stuff (energetic stuff, Pendulum for example), smacking loud hardcore(hakkuuuh), Goa-trance (Infected Mushroom, Astral Projection). I have not much up with commercial dance/trance music. Too soft for my liking.

carl cox is sick.

salar,

sorry i didnt give u a buzz. i forgot to write down your number and i didnt have internet access in melbourne. was a very good weekend though. ended up going to onelove on sat night and then the casino last night. friday we didnt get in til very late and we were heaps tired so we just went to a couple of bars around st kilda. overall... although it kills me to say it... melbourne is fucking amazing...walking around the river near the casino i was in fucking awe at it. maybe its cos im so used to sydney but melb destroys it as far as a scenic, picturaesque city. everyone i met was really cool aswell, and the women are incredible. only thing we have over you guys is the weather and beaches.. even crown casino kills star city.. incredible. can definitely see myself living down there.

peace, love, dance music.

Duke. Carl Cox is not proper techno.... But he's pretty cool though. Proper techno is more like.. Derrick May or Francois Dubois (aka Funk D'Void). Some artists step into the tech scene like Claude Von Stroke, Gui Boratto, Ame and Bookashade but they also sway towards the minimal and tech-house scene as well.

Aloivas, all is good dude. It kills me that you went to onelove though. Of all the places... plus u probably went there on the shittiest night (mind you sinden was playing who was pretty average anyway).. Everyone there that night was googed up with their sunnies and headbands like total tossers.. and girls squealing and yelling and *shrugs..
i dropped in to suss out sindens set but couldn't take it... so i was out of there in a second!
But dude.. i'm glad u liked Melbourne. if your down here again within the next month give me a buzz and i'll show u guys around with some cool clubs. or if you go to brisbane.. give me a yell and i'll show ya around.

hmm, i dunno dude. i quite like sinden, however his set the other night was pretty poor. tommie sunshine played before him and i thought he killed it. you're right about the people, though. but that's kinda what onelove is... 18 yr olds or younger (i'm 19), lots of fluoro and sunnies and headbands. you go most places in sydney and its like that although i think its starting to change a bit which is good. actually it was pretty funny, we didn't really know how melb people dressed so we rocked up to onelove with nice collared shirts, but we wore tshirts underneath, so when we got inside we realised everyone was wearing t shirts and took off our shirts. there were definitely a few tossers but most of the people i met seemed pretty cool.

btw do you go to any festivals, salar? i've been to field day and we love sounds this year and will probably go to park life... don't know if you have them down there...

Electronic music wise i LOVE Jungle/Drum n' Bass. I'm actually enjoying it waayyy more than hip hop now a days...especially Ragga Jungle. I'm going to the World Electronic Music Festival ("3 day rave") this year in about 10 days!!! It's gonna be a blur of a weekend, can't wait. Some Dirty House is good too. I really, really don't like Happy Hardcore.

I'm mad about house music...

I love everything from Stonebridge, David Guetta, Prydz, Sanchez, Van Helden, Bob Sinclair, etc.

I have tons of Ministry of the Sound CDs.

The thing that I'm listening to most these days is Nightcrawlers, Alex Gaudino *does the trmumpet dance* and Enur.

Yeah i guess i've just grown out of all that shit years ago. Onelove 3-4 years ago was the shit.. now it's just an image thing. Yeah Tommie Sunshine is absolutely amazing. But Sinden was just an earsore.. i expect more from international dj's.. though i wasn't expecting much from sinden to begin with.

Yeah i generally hit all the festivals around the country. I was at Summerdayze in melbourne (your field days).. then hit Summer Field Days in Brisbane the following week.. I was at We Love Sounds Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney which was sweeeet.. saw all the acts i wanted to. And Parklife this year should be alright.. Last year parklife was amazing! I was at Future Music Festival melbourne and brisbane as well.. that was goooood!
I should be at parklife brisbane this year.. might head down to sydney for it as well. haven't sussed out dates and exclusive acts yet.. and i don't know whether i'm playing as a local act in any of em. If i do.. fuck everything.. i'm playing a drum n bass set!

If your down in Melbourne.. on a saturday night head down to F4 or 3rd Class... If i'm down there we'll do the all nighter.. start with drinks at the bars like Moo and gin palace.. then head to 3rd class, zest, f4 (3 different types of music), then head down to onesixone (classy recovery club) and then maybe revolver (not so classy recovery club).. but when you walk out of a club at noon. you feel so wrong.. but all worth it :)

but i wouldn't drive down to melbourne.. otherwise the drive up will be very painful after a night like that.

haha sounds like an amazing night man. i remember i met a girl the other night who told me about onesixone and eve as being good places to go after. i generally can't do nights that big without drugs being involved, though....haha

1. what's your dj name?

2. what do you do for a living? how do you have enough money to travel so much let alone pay for all the things that go along with clubbing and partying?

3. what are your favourite places in sydney?

i'll provide the drugs :D

Eve is crap.. it's too pretentious. it's actually very very bad. But yeah you'd love onesix.

I actually don't have a dj name.Like i do but i don't. It changes every week depending on what i want. Saz seems to be the consensus at the moment. I've gone under Zakaz, Nameless, Rockstar, Sa-Lar More (i was playing after Sam La More from Tonite Only.. it was funny).. Salar Jey (playing after Sharam Jey)... Jeys Disciple (same situation), Sazsquatch, who.... i get bored.. if i'm going to get serious about it though i really need to stick with a name.

I'm a Business Analyst. boring IT shit! and yeah.. my partying generally doesn't cost me so i pay for tickets interstate instead :)

Well whenever i'm in sydney i have to go visit kink to catchup with scotty there.. and he takes care of me so all is good. I've been to Yu.. Industrie i played at.. umm.. i can't remember. Chinese laundry was good actually.
