Its been thought for a while that there is most likely frozen H2O in the bottom of certain craters. If it turns out there is, human colonization of the moon is much more conceivable. The reason NASA are doing these tests is b/c they want to have a people up there by something like 2030. From there, human exploration of Mars will slowly start to begin.

Anyway, they are saying this "bombing" is to see if there is a water source for humans to live on the moon, but there is no food source, so what does it matter?

Less than 5% of the ocean has been explored, yet we're searching for water on the moon. We should learn about our own planet thoroughly before "deep space exploration" goes into overdrive. (I know the moon isn't considered deep space exploration but if it is just a baby step toward Mars and whatever else, like someone above me mentioned, my claim is justified.)
