Maybe I'm wrong. But I'm very anti live8. To me it is the biggest load of bollocks. Do they actually believe they are going to end poverty?

All it is, is a bunch of pompous, pretentious, self obsessed celebrities who are doing the gig for "free", as they love the publicity it gives them and makes their sad little lives feel a little more important. I'm not a U2 fan but I recognise their talent and the fact they are a huge rock band. But does Bono realise that he is a singer and not a politician. He has an opinion on everything and thinks he is some kind of modern day saint. I hate him, and with a passion.

Bob Geldof, great man. Tries his best. Completley overshadowed by the Bono carnival.

Joss Stone. Is she mental. She's worse than all the others put together. She is dumb as shit. "I would go in there and ask if there mothers were proud of them". Wooooooaaaaahh. Scared. That was what she's say to the world leaders at the Summit.

This concert has gotten more publicity than any other fundraiser I can remember. Yet do they think we are dumb. This, like any other, will hardly dent world poverty. Let alone end it.

And how many celebs are going to reject their free gifts? 10 K worth!!!! Sickens me.

I have more respect for celebs who do their charity work low key. And not splashed on the front page, and 10 pages inside, of the newspaper.

Bono has done well to put his money where his mouth is... but I still hate him.

Maybe I have this all wrong. I've tried not to read anything about it as it gets on my nerves. But this is my interpretation. Anybody want to enlighten me or school me? But I think I'm right at the moment.

ill agree with everyone so far and say that bono is a fucking idiot. however im not anti-live8, but im not really pro-live8. i dont give a shit either way. however, they are trying to help. even if their goal (which is pretty much an impossible goal) is not achieved (which it wont be) they are at least doing something positive. its not like they are out their doing negative shit to mess it up more or something. they are doing the only thing they can (make music) so im not gonna sit here and bitch about how they wont complete their near-impossible goal, because they are at least doing something positive.

True, they're trying. But what makes my eyebrows raise in suspicision, and probably Pitts' as well, is the whole circus. I, for one, am wondering if the focal point hasn't shifted towards all those big shot celebs who are "doing something so good!" instead on what this Live8 thing was about.

That kind of makes me not give a shit if the event is flushed down the drain or not.

But are the majority doing it for the rights reasons?

I personally believe most are doing it for themselves.

i dont see what benefit the concerts had.Everyone already knew about poverty and from the moment they got in all they wouldve cared about was the music.I know Bob Geldof's trying to do all the right stuff but he seems like a prick

How many people look at Africa or World poverty due to Live8? Or how many people think of the music and not the plight behind it?

They won't make a difference. And how many of them care?

My point is they are not using their fame for a good cause. It's for boosting their own egos.

Disagree with me by all means. But don't give me replies like that. And calling me names instigates beef, which will get you banned.

i was reading a story on yahoo last night were a reporter talked to people in south africa. the report said that hardly anyone in south africa knew about live8. the majority of africa cant even see the broadcast since they are so poor. the big question on peoples minds down there is why werent any south african artist on the line up of acts?

1) I don't know why don't you go take a poll?
(I like how you assume more think of the music then the plight, like you have any idea what most people think)

2) how do you know they won't make a difference? they surely would not if they did not try, least they are trying and thus I am sure will make some impact.

And on how many of them Care? I would assume a majoirty of them honestly care for the cause.

3) I understand your poin't but you are just pulling shit out of your own mind, cause you don't care you think none of the viewers or people that preforme for Live8 care!

4) Don't be a baby's burp cloth.

1. What difference does a poll make? The same difference as Live8 I assume. none. Also I made no assumption. ? means a question. ! means a statement.

2. Lets see what impact is made. Do you believe in santa too?

Bono cares, gelfof cares. How many of the others are self absorbed?

3. I said school me at the end of my post. I'm open to INTELLIGENT persuasion. I'm not saying I am right. Far from it. I said I hadn't researched it. It annoys me. That is my initial opinion and how I've seen it.

4. Your age says 25 in your profile. Act it.

I hope one day you or your land needs aid, yet you suffer for many years.

Hope all you want. But just like Live8 it aint gonna do shit. I'm happy and well fed. Thanks for caring.

Now if you have nothing constructive to add, or you can't handle debating and other people having different opinions to you, then post in a different thread.

Most people realize that Live 8 won't solve poverty in Africa or even really begin too. However it does draw worldwide attention to the problem and puts some pressure (it's debatable as to how much) on the G8 leaders to come up with some sort of a viable solution vis-a-vis the region.

As to the person who said Live Aid didn't do anything for Africa, that is totally false. While not solving any of it's real problems directly (although I don't think this is why it came about) with the apporximate $80 million raised by the concerts, much aid was flown into Ethopia and millions of lives were saved which would otherwise certainly have perished.
