Samsungs don't update OTA. You have to download Samsung's program, connect it to your PC and it auto-updates. There's a 2.1 update since early 2010 for it. 2.2 (at least unofficial version) is coming soon. Maybe branded UK versions act somehow differently because we don't have these here.

Ah thanks, i'll try that later. Apparently the update came out mid march, I think he's had his longer than that so that explains why the one he got from T-Mobile was 1.5 and not the 2.1 version they now send out.

iPhone wins it for me and a good reason for that is costs:

Costs

The HTC EVO 4G is $199 after a $100 mail-in rebate with Sprint, but you can get it elsewhere (like Radio Shack and Best Buy) for $199 straight up. The iPhone 4 will be $199. Service plans get much more complicated, but basically:

* AT&T you can get as low at $55 with 200MB of data, 450 minutes of talk, and no messaging. If you want unlimited voice and messaging, along with 2GB of data (the most AT&T will pre-sell you, it's $10 per GB after that), you'll be forking over $115 a month.
* Sprint requires you to go for a minimum $80 plan (that includes the required premium data plan add-on for the EVO), which includes unlimited data, unlimited messaging, and 450 minutes of talk. To bump up to unlimited everything (and that $10 premium data charge insures a true unlimited data) you'll be spending $110 a month.

I would be getting that $55 plan and using Google Voice for messages. Seriously, there's no point in paying for texts if you're in the US. Just have to be a student now. I used Google Voice on my iTouch and it worked just fine. It's better integrated on Android (DUH!) but it wasn't an issue one bit.

Why aren't you staying with T-Mobile? They have some AMAZING phones coming out in the next few months, as well as the new MyTouch Slide which is out now.

Samsung Galaxy S is hitting TMob US next month, supposedly followed by this:

I have no idea why you'd switch to shitty-ass AT&T for their shitty-ass iPhone.

I'm sure T-Mob offer a similar plan to that AT&T one, right?

I'm not as impressed with the HTC Incredible or the HTC Evo anymore and they are the best android phones out right now, and are on Verizon and Sprint. The argument that something better will come out soon doesn't work because something better will always come out soon, considering how technology works.

The Samsung Galaxy S just isn't sexy enough. That Motorola looks interesting, I'll check it out. I won't make a purchase for at least a month or so. I gotta play with the new iPhone first .

Trying to get my buddy off his iPhone 3GS, going on to the iPhone 4. Trying to get him to wait until October to wait for more AT&T phones or get the N1 right now and just buy it out right, which is what he was gonna do for the iPhone 4 anyway, which is probably more, or at least equal in price.

Any 'Milestone' branded phone has restrictions on booting a custom recovery image, right? so wouldn't rooting the device be more difficult?
