Technology Android

Personally I don't like that chin because it makes the phone more bulky if you hold it in your pocket but it's rather stylish and has many positives. What Casey said plus you can easily tell phone's position (if it's upside down or whatnot). Personally I often confuse that for example at night when I want to unlock my phone and check something - I spend some time trying to figure out where is the unlock button :p

Also, it's comfortable for placing the phone horizontally to watch a movie.

We're almost there folks!

In just 18 months since the first Android device, the G1 launched, Android is set to overtake iPhone OS as the dominant smartphone OS with the most market share, as early as next month.

Stats graph:

Truly a remarkable feat, and a well deserved one, since we all know Android is far and away the best mobile OS available.

My Desire comes tuesday :P

Asshole - I must still wait. Although Nexus is available in Canada, it's not subsidized by any carrier here. It would be 750$ to get it, and have it shipped here. X10 is coming out here in a few weeks, but I've heard lesser than average reviews on it. Fingers crossed for the Desire though

Worldwide figures

SUMMARY: Google owns both AdMob and Android, but the iPhone still dominates AdMob ad services.

iPhone accounts for 60% of mobile traffic worldwide,

3en the iphone 4G will come out soon and yes it will show an increase in share. but think about the constant android releases that are coming out via x number of phone manufacturers. its evident from the graph that iphone sales only increase after every summer when they release their phone (and christmas sales).

what's more obvious that android is showing no signs of a slow growth period.

just for confirmation and to confirm this all in one place - which networks are the following phones coming out in the uk?

HTC Legend
HTC Desire
Sony Ericsson Xperia X10/Mini/Mini-pro
Google Nexus One
HTC Evo 4G

HTC Legend - Vodafone
HTC Desire - Orange, T-Mobile, Vodafone, 3
SE Xperia X10 - Vodafone, Orange
Nexus One - Vodafone (subsidized), any network (unlocked)

HTC Evo = No info on this yet. Firstly they'd have to make a GSM version as the US model is on Sprint's network which is CDMA. Secondly we don't have any 4G networks here in the UK yet. Chances are they'll release some kind of variant but without the 4G.

/\ true enough, but rumor has it that it might be getting an upgrade to 2.2....which might make it one of the first 2.2 devices on the market (obviously the Nexus One will be the first device to get it, in fact I hear that Google employees are already running 2.2 on their N1s)

SE Xperia X10 may come with Android 2.2 - Mobile Phones - Crave - CNET Asia

Another rumor I just heard was that the Motorola Shadow (aka Nexus Two) will have a dual-core processor and come out later this year, and that HTC are going to come out with a super high spec phone at the same time which will is currently known as the HTC Scorpion.

What's with that new cool google maps navigation app? Still not many new features in my google maps for Android 2.1 and someone posted a link about it that was probably in this thread.

edit:
okay I found out:
http://www.google.com/mobile/navigation/

It's still in beta. I had hopes that I'll have this with my 2.1 update. I still think I'll install that beta as this looks like the ultimate free gps navigation app.

Navigation is currently disabled outside the US. It'll be enabled once Google's deals with certain companies expire.

However if you have root, you can easily enable it. I have it fully working on my G1.
