Android 2.1 project for Samsung Galaxy:
gaosp - Project Hosting on Google Code

IF Samsung updates Galaxy it'll get 2.0 however their official position right now is that there'll be no update. I messaged them and they told me that they don't plan an update and if I want the Android 2 I should wait for Galaxy 2 that'll be out soon.

casey, prize, sofi, sigh and others:

which mobile web browser do you mostly use?

i may just switch back to the default browser from steel. because ive noticed that it loads up full web pages much faster now. steel is still quite slow at this.

btw, a Multitouch (pinch to zoom) update just went out for the Nexus One in the US....6 months to the day that Eric Schmidt resigned from Apple's board of directors.

One of the main criticisms of certain Android devices like the DROID and Nexus One has been the lack of this functionality and speculation was rife as to why. Some had speculated Apple had a patent, but that didn't explain why HTC had implemented the pinch to zoom multitouch in their Sense UI for Android, or why the European Motorola Droid/Milestone had it implemented but the US one did not.

Evidently it would seem that Eric made some sort of agreement with Apple over certain things for a 6 month period following his resignation. This would also explain why I've heard in the last few days of a number of Apple employees quitting and joining Google, they had an agreement not to poach each other's workers, this must have been a 6 month agreement also.

^In legal terms, it's a non-compete clause. It's ubiquitous in the tech industry but also for any position where you have access to non-public information.

I probably should have waited for someone to say "OMG Apple is so evil for not letting its employees go" and then shit on them.

Well, almost all capacitive touch screens are capable of multi-touch. Android also supports multi-touch. It's just that for some reason it's usually not implemented. For example HTC Magic has a capacitive screen with multi-touch that is just not enabled and you need a custom rom that would make it work.

I just want to recommend an app for you all if you have not all ready got it.

yxflash; a media player that supports Divx AVI files, its got a few framerate issues, but most of the time it plays 100%. Its not free however you don't pay on the market, you put your imei into the registration/purchase page and it generates your serial key. i found a keygen online which worked. Ill see if i can find it again.

tried to purchase My Backup Pro from the market the other day using google checkout and my card was rejected. Im using solo card. apparently these cards are not widely accepted as the others. is there another way to make the purchase?

do we not have the option to add it to our monthly bill in the uk?

hmmmm i would speak to your bank cos in 2010 no one should have a solo card, the whole solo/maestro card system is being phased out. you should at least have a Visa Electron. Im suprised you dont have a Visa debit, most banks use that now.

i will have to enquire about this. ive only just received my new solo/maestro card last year so it still has a few years left until the expiry date. will have to try and get a new one and then destroy this one.

I don't have time to post all the updates, but there's been a shitload of Android announcements at MWC (Mobile World Congress) event over the last few days. Among them, official launches of the HTC Legend and HTC Desire (Bravo).
