Galaxy Nexus got banned because Apple patented something high school kids write while learning for their Java classes. As always.

patent number 8,086,604 ('604), it refers to a device being able to search multiple sources through a single interface

This got the Galaxy Nexus banned. In short, Google got banned for the use of their own decade-old search engine in their phones because Apple patented everything they could while introducing Siri less than a year ago.

If the notification drop-down is less of a "copying" than a "rectangle-shaped phone with a display in the middle" or "searching within multiple strings at the same time" then the American legal system needs to die.

"Getting an idea" and "blatantly copying" it are two different things. It's why Apple has successfully banned the GalNex in the States. How's Android's patent portfolio faring for them?

But in this case, the similarities are uncanny. The drag-down concept for notifications is a concept. This one looks like the colors are just switched around and repackaged. I would, strangely, be OK with it if Google addressed and owned up to it.

Google didn't copy Iphone notifications. Apple stole the notifications lockscreen from the Cydia developers who took an idea from android. It shouldn't be patented. Notifications on the lock screen shouldn't be patented. And neither should a symmetrical shape.... The whole patenting war is a complete joke. If you don't agree, then you are obviously trolling, and I see no reason to respond further.

Can you please point out where the design of the galaxy Nexus is a copy of the iphone?

edit - Masta has pointed out the unjust patent system in America. You can't patent generic technology.

Competition is always awesome for the final consumer, but not patent wars, since they kill innovation. I'm all for fair competition. The American legal system appears to thwart all cool ideas though. The fact that you can sue a serious company about something that silly is ridiculous. The fact that you can sue anyone over anything ridiculous there is crazy to me. The more I hear the more crazy it appears, and lately I've also been following "The Oatmeal's" case against Funny Junk so it annoys me more than ever.

As much as I don't like Apple as a company I like the fact that they come up with neat hardware design solutions, because it drives the whole market forward. Android drives smartphone performance and software innovations forward and Windows Phone and RIM.. are struggling out there and they will have to drive something forward if they wish to survive.
I mean, Android manufacturers compete amongst themselves but having an outside competitor that comes up with totally different things makes me happier in this case.

Apple aren't fighting google really. The main patent wars are between samsung and Apple. Nothing major between google and Apple. The biggest one was Oracle and google. I am assuming the USA judges wouldn't be as quick to rule in favour of Apple when 2 USA companies are involved.

Android notifications have been the same since Android 1.0 launched in freakin 2008.

The new ones in Jelly Bean are the same as they've always been but with richer contextual information.

Prior to iOS 5, where they straight up jacked the Android notification system, amongst other things (SiliconAngle suggested Google should sue Apple for many ways that iOS5 ripped off Android) - iOS notifications were HILARIOUSLY shit and looked like this, for EVERY notification.

Anyhoo - a few people in my family are getting Nexus 7's.

I find it a pain in the arse to find all the ebooks I want. I bought a load of the classics for 50p each. But if I don't want to read books like Crime and Punishment, then they expect me to pay a fiver......

I look on newsgroups, but they don't have much. I refuse to use torrents. Any other sources would be good.

The way I'd go about it is using google to search for the epub of a newer popular book and see what type of sites come up. There has to be forums or blogs dedicated to dl'n ebooks

I think I did this once. But like everyone who has grown up with the internet..... I am thinking.... There has to be an easier way....!

You don't need epub or mobi formatted books.

Kindle app has a feature where it provides you with a "@kindle.com" email address. You can email PDF's straight to that, and possibly other common formats too.

Also, I forget if I mentioned this, but Jelly Bean has a new feature in the Play Store, so that when you download app updates, instead of redownloading the entire app as it works currently, it will only download the new parts. This reduces the amount of data you have to download quite significantly. I'm pleased about this.

Yeah. I wasn't 100% sure. I was basing it on my actual kindle.
