I didn't find it having as much bloated software as the AT&T one, but I was surprised to find out it comes preloaded with Avatar, the movie. I really liked the swype software, it makes it a lot easier to text people and it works really well too. Point is, I'm back on the android train although I was close to going the iPhone 4 route. Now I'm only wondering if perhaps I should wait till the end of the year for a better Android phone. I haven't kept up with new Android phones since Droid X dropped so I don't know what better phones are coming out. That G2 doesn't look too convincing. I'm pretty sure I don't need a QWERTY at this point so I don't know why I'd get it.

It seems all the best devices come out during the holidays, or a tad bit afterwards. So like..December to early February seems like the best time, especially with the current roadmap for VZW. You are willing to switch carriers, right? For T-Mo and GayT&T, I dunno what their future plans are, but it isn't as advertised as VZW's.

Yeah. I guess T-Mobile in the US must have had the exclusive rights to package the movie on a phone. It's all over the packaging.

The thing with the G2 is that it's T-Mobile's first 4G device. So even if you don't need a QWERTY you might consider it on that basis.

But, there's also the MyTouch HD dropping soon on T-Mobile. That one is keyboardless. It might be dropping at the same time as the G2. It's also rumored to have a front-facing camera, so logically this will probably be 4G as well to take advantage of that.

Also, if the real name of the MyTouch HD is in fact the HTC Glacier (which it might well be), then it KILLED on some leaked GPU data sheets and might even be a 1.5GhZ dualcore processor.

So.... if all that is true then it's def worth waiting for.

VZW actually haven't advertised shit. There was a roadmap leaked and at least one of the devices on it as since been cancelled. It's still very good, of course. But the other carriers have a few aces up their sleeves for sure - that's what makes Android so great right now - except for AT&T, all the competition are pulling out some heavy punches over the next few months.

Not my kind of thing, but perhaps it will pull over some Blackberry or Palm Pre fans.

Remember this little piece of Blackberry Torch-like magic? It seemed like just yesterday that the interwebz gave birth to the Motorola-crafted device, but it’s all grown up and gotten rid of the blurrycam that most infant devices are plagued with. We can at least confirm its name to be the Motorola XT300 as the last time we visited this device we had no clue on what to call it. (I quite liked my take: the Motorola Droid MiniDroid Pre Thingy.)

We’re not greeted with much outside of a quick tour of the software – the device looks to be running Android 2.1 with the latest version of MOTOBLUR. Other than that, the video doesn’t give us a glimpse of the hardware in motion but at least the still shot is clear enough. Its keypad and overall form factor is very reminiscent of the Palm Pre, but I’d venture to say it looks more like a Blackberry 9800 (mainly due to the fact that the keys aren’t offset – something that’s become quite the trend for Motorola’s design team).
Last we heard, this thing was headed for Verizon as we saw what looked to be a DROID eye in previous shots and in the new shots today (which you can find the rest of at Mobiflip, along with video), but nothing’s for certain.

Well, with the rooting of the D2 and DX and the supposed flashing of a custom ROM, it looks like Motorola devices are a safe purchase now. If that eFuse thing truly was "uncrackable" then it would have sucked living with a stock phone. No matter how nice and fast it was stock.

I got the paid version of Ti Backup and uninstalled some bloatware. I also uninstalled ATK and it seems to be just as fast without it. Part of that probably has to do with 2.2 being better about running tasks. They say 2.1 was kinda iffy but pre-2.1, a task killer was beneficial.

I could have sworn there were more performance hacks for the Droid. Like 720p-something, FPS, or whatever. I can't find them.
 
That Motorola XT320 looks long (in length), not my kind of thing either.

Speaking of backing up, what does everyone here use to backup their messages, contacts etc to Gmail? i currently use SMS Backup by Christoph Studer; but there is an app called Backup to Gmail, just wondering if that is any good or maybe even better?
 
Why are they making such a big deal out the DX not having "official" software? So gay. HTC was legit in the EVO's case of using the leaked 2.2. Fucking Motorola.
 
Ugh, now apparently there's some talk of the G2 being stock Android only in the US and having HTC's Sense interface everywhere else.

Kinda lame, but I'm sure it'll be rooted and have a port of CyanogenMod in no time. :D
 
The Milestone looks very different, or seems to be different, from the D2.

I never knew that either. That's weird. What does it mean when you press and hold the Home key and eight icons show up, then?

No, it's not. This ad was actually leaked and then pulled, but someone had downloaded it whilst it was up and they reuploaded it somewhere else. Perhaps it got pulled down due to that piece of misinformation.
 
^ Yeah it also felt weird to me. Usually I have as many apps open as my ram allows it. Even in tasks managers I often see more than 15 tasks open. Then if there's less than 20mb or so it starts shutting down inactive apps.

I was worried that maybe now they're limiting the amount of apps running in the background which would be strange since Android handles shitloads of simultaneously running apps in the background at ease.
