I don't like the GEL Google services integration, but I want the transparency effects and redesign. I'm disappointed the 4.4 on N7 feels just like 4.2 or 4.3.

I'm just waiting for a CM nightly with it.

My battery life has been shit the past two months since I moved to Southern Illinois. I don't get LTE down here either. Is there a way I can see just how shitty my reception is, because I think my radio is killing my battery. Otherwise, there is nothing new that I am doing with my phone that should warrant these kind of drains.

Is there an app or something?

Use Nova Launcher for the transparency and UI changes. Enable ART in dev settings. There you go.

I believe there's no ART for Nexus 7. I'm not a fan of the Nova Launcher as well, even though it adds transparency.
Also, there's still no OTA for my 2012 N7. The rollouts are so slow.

Ah, yeah, no ART for 2012 N7. Nova Launcher is amazing, what's not to like about it?

And who waits for an OTA? The download links are out there, flash that shit via ADB.

OTA is super convenient though. I was used to getting an update instantly after announcement via OTA. I'm a little disappointed the process takes so long this time. I don't really have much time lately and manually updating sounds like too much hassle right now as the OTA should be just around the corner.. hopefully, as it's already a fairly long wait.

Nova looks just like my SGS4's UI to me, just more amateur-ish. It used to force close for me and lag on load (it closed often) and if I remember correctly, the cool features were paid. But then again, that's how Google's new UI looks like - the transparency and white icons are exactly what the Galaxy S4 had and the icons now look more Samsung-ish as well.

I still don't get it why with each update Google can't add the single probably most wanted UI element - battery percentage instead of the battery icon, or an option to set it. Even most OEM Roms already have it.

Fuck it, I sideloaded 4.4 :p Nevertheless, the OTA update process for Nexus devices seems to be very long these days. One major point for Apple here.

Also, the 4.4 doesn't feel any new on my N7. Just the white icons look weird and boring without transparency. I'm doing a factory reset though, as it seems like it's been long due on my old N7.

I don't even know the commands to use ADB. I don't know any commands, actually. Even the fstrim commands didn't seem to be recognized on my S3 using Terminal.

Fuck it.

Staples has a coupon for $50 off a purchase there, and it works on the N7 tablets. So the 16GB 2013 N7 can be had for $179. Still waiting to make up my mind. May end up waiting for the next refresh. Yes. 10 months from now.

A friend of mine bought an Air and I used it. Felt light as hell, but didn't really seem all that different when using it. Just the same shitty OS iOS is now with iOS7.

It doesn't take 20 minutes to use ADB. You download the Android SDK, you start a command prompt in the folder that contains the adb executable, reboot your phone to the recovery, and type adb sideload filename.zip (where filename.zip is the downloaded update). Done.

Nova looks identical to the stock UI but more customisation. That's why I like it. I use it on my N7, but I use the stock GEL launcher on my N5.

Ok. 17 minutes.

Hey guys, I'm hoping you can help me. I was super wasted last night when I got the 4.4 OTA update on my rooted HTC One. I went to install it right away. Sometime during or after installation, the screen was showing the Android guy with his chest open and a ! inside a red rectangle. It said "No Command". At that point, I was apparently supposed to hit Power+Volume Up or Down and get to a screen where I could boot the KitKat update. Instead, I wiped the cache, erased partition, and did a factory reset. I'm still in the same place except KitKat isn't on my phone anymore so I can't boot it. As the result, I can't do shit with this phone. Any help you guys can provide? The computer won't recognize the phone connection when I use USB.

I'd make the same post on XDA. http://forum.xda-developers.com/ They have always helped me bring my phone back from the dead.

You can't just pick a simple username? It has to be the sound my dog makes when he throws up?

What about "ChodeStraddler69?" Hmm? Was that taken?

Can you boot into recovery at all? You can sideload via adb and put a rom on your phone and flash it then, that's what I would try.

if you don't have adb set up on your comp i would assume that someone has made some sort of toolkit set up and you can run it form your comp and go from there. I know you said your comp wont recognize your phone but for the nexus 4 for example you can just boot into bootloader and plug your phone in, regardless if it's recognized, and go from there
