Does he have to? No. I think it's more he likes the case and the look of it. Setting himself apart was a byproduct of his enjoyment of taking apart and tinkering with his phone.
Why would I feel victimized about someone else's phone?
It's not the case in the sense that it's the little rubber lining. I'm talking about a clear body kit. Or a white body kit. Which requires taking it apart. What is a better way to distinguish a smartphone from others, other than rooting/jailbreaking?

AT&T’s Samsung Galaxy S II revealed

BGR has obtained exclusive images of AT&T’s upcoming Samsung Galaxy S II smartphone. Following our report on Monday showing an unnamed Samsung slider headed to AT&T, we have confirmed that the device pictured is indeed a variant of Samsung’s blockbuster Galaxy S II headed to AT&T. Live images of the device reveal the Galaxy S II model number, SGH-I927, along with additional details surrounding the sleek Gingerbread phone. While it appears as though Samsung managed to keep AT&T’s Galaxy S II relatively slender in spite of adding on a full sliding QWERTY keyboard, the textured back cover on the phone looks like a bit of an eyesore. The Galaxy S II is already the fastest-selling Samsung smartphone of all time, and it has yet to launch on a single carrier in the U.S. market. While U.S. carrier versions of the smartphone are expected to arrive in August, release timing and pricing for the AT&T version pictured here are not yet available. It is also unclear whether the device will launch with the Galaxy S II moniker or with AT&T’s own branding as the original Galaxy S did. Several additional images, including a pair that shows off some very impressive benchmark test results, follow below.

There's a keyboard - it's AT&T so that means it'll be hitting Rogers in Canada - I'm intrigued.

They obviously haven't owned an iphone then. I had to have about 5 chargers for various locations. And with android you can actually have more than one battery. So you could go camping and last the week.

A glorious new set of images has leaked online… what we’ve got here are some pics of an unnamed/unannounced Motorola smartphone that might be the next evolution of the ATRIX. The overall look is similar, but as you can see this beast has some sort of curved glass to it. In addition, the ATRIX came with a 5 megapixel camera and captured 720p HD videos, this new device has an 8 megapixel shooter and records 1080p HD videos, and comes with a front-facing camera. As for the screen size, this seems to be have bumped up a bit to 4.3-inches (ATRIX is 4-inches) and no word on the processor. The pictures also reveal it to be running Android 2.3… you like? More pics below

That's quite sexy. The salesman tried to sell me the original ATRIX when I called up to get the SGS2, but it wasn't up-to-par. This looks like it might compete, provided the processor has had a big bump up as well, which seems likely.
what's with the curved screens? are they more damage/shatter-proof? i know gorilla glass had its scratch-proof resistance but it could shatter very easily if dropped.
GoogleTV seems to have died off in terms of buzz by the blogs. I'm sure they're still stuff Google is working out to really get it going, but buying when it came out last year was not a good choice.
Good thing it's gotten a ton cheaper. Might be worth it now at $100 for browsing on your TV and having apps on it too.

What else is left to do on GTV other than that? Didn't many vendors pull their material from it, or prevent it from being accessed using GTV?

I doubt it. It has an AT&T logo so it's probably just a new revision of Atrix. I don't think that an American carrier was ever given a new iteration of a phone in the first place. Usually they get late spin-offs with a different case and packed with bloatware.
Actually I always wondered why they didn't sell Galaxy S, instead there were dozens of spin offs like the captivate or fascinate. Why? It costs more and I'd feel like I had an imitation of Galaxy S.
I'd buy GoogleTV for that price if they sold it here.
Masta - it's to differentiate between carriers so they all have something a little "unique" - even though it's only the chassis that has minor differences between them, and T-Mobile had a 4G variant. It's all basically the same phone inside though, I think. The plan worked because they sold a shitload of them.
In related news - Galaxy S2 has sold 6 million already and it's not even out in the US yet. That's in just 2 and a half months. Quite impressive. I predict it'll hit 15 million before Xmas.

Yeah it just appears weird to me. I wouldn't go for a carrier variant unless it was really awesome (like the Qwerty Galaxy S2).
I was really suprised that America is so late on the greatest Androids this year. Galaxy S2, the Arc, LG phones were also a bit late I believe. It's been 4 months since they started selling the Galaxy S2 here.
If we really wanted one, we could just import it for $800 or so from Europe.
By the time it comes out in the States, it'll be time for the Nexus 3 or GS3 news will start rolling in. Or what I mean is it may not be worth shelling out $200 on contract for a GS2 if it comes out in August, like it's rumored to be. Any time after that is less of a case, if you're trying to get the latest and greatest. And if you're spending $200, why shouldn't you get the latest and greatest?

I'm going to do the 2 yrs per phone thing, just because. I waited two full years with my G1. I will wait full two years with my Nexus S. So, someone inform me about a good phone come December 2012.
You'll enjoy it for less than a week before the world ends. I say go all out with the octo-core Nexus Apocalypse.
Speaking of the Revo. I'm tempted to get the Acer Revo 100 which includes 500GB and a blu-ray player... just has all the solutions in one place. Considering whether to get that one or the R3600 or R3610
