I had a quick listen the other day to this.....honestly, I wasn't feeling it.
I think it's too easy to praise Miss Keys. She's an instrument-playing intelligent alternative to the relentless corporate push of young sexy r'n'b singers with limited talent and limited vocal range.
That doesn't make her a great artist though. Personally, I think she's displayed flashes of greatness but has never written a single classic, perfect song that will stand the test of time. 'Falling' comes the closest, but even that I find somewhat lacking, perhaps because the instrumentation, layering and arrangement is taken from the James Brown classic "It's a Man's Man's Man's World", it's just in a different key.
Best thing she's ever done, IMO was her cover of Prince's "How Come You Don't Call Me Anymore".
It's obviously nowhere near the original but it's difficult to cover Prince and very rarely have I heard a cover of a Prince song that I liked. She didn't do a bad job.
