Alright, Shenmue is a great game, Final fantasy is great too but I understand those who prefer Shenmue, it's totally different and great game. Also fits into my taste.
Some people may prefer generic rpg's tho. To me generic rpg's are too boring.
I'm still hunting for a xbox version of Shenmue.

Dude seriously, pick up the first one (the first had more interaction than the second), Im sure theres a decent Dreamcast emulator around. You can literally open any draw and pick up whats inside. You can play with animals. You can just spend ages interacting with the cities.
Dont think Shenmue 1 came out on Xbox. Ive got Shenmue 2 and it comes with a bonus DVD that consits of a movie created from Shenmue 1 footage that fills in the gap from the first game.
I heard they are thinking about porting 1 and 2 onto the 360 and PS3, pumping the visuals up and engine and attaching Shenmue 3 so it all becomes one huge ass game.
Dude I've played them to death, I wouldn't be posting on here if I didn't... FF7, Chrono Cross/Trigger and more titles were far better gaming experiences for me.
I love Shenmue, I'm just saying I've played alot of games that are better to me. I have both games for DC, though I got rid of my DC long ago, I can still play them with DCnull

Yes! There's so many hidden things. I must have played the first one through 8 or 9 times and still there's stuff I know is out there that I never found. You can basically go into any room on any street and there's stuff in there, people to talk to, stuff that might send you off on a totally different tangent. It's just amazing.
Ruk's right, Shenmue I didn't come out on xbox, only the DVD explaining what happening did.
Shenmue II came out on Dreamcast (in Japanese audio with English subs) and Xbox (English Audio).
I think at this point it would make sense to do that. God, I really hope they do that. That would make so much sense, since the good thing about Dreamcast Shenmue II was that you continue your save file from the first game so you have all the items and goodies you collected along the way. On the xbox you just started with a generic set of stuff plus obviously the key items that were necessary like the Mirror that you find in the Hazuki dojo secret basement, the picture of Iwao Hazuki, etc.
Chrono Trigger - yes. I have it on my zSnes. Didn't really enjoy it that much.
Chrono Cross - never played this one.
Final Fantasy - played around 8 or 9 of the FF games. I enjoyed FF7 the most. Apart from that, 5 and 6 weren't bad. Overall I'm not a massive fan of the series, though.
Dragon Quest - i recently played Dragon Quest 8(?) after having not played any since the early early early Dragon Warrior games that were ported to the Game Boy. Again I don't really dig any of them, pretty formulaic if you ask me.
Elder Scrolls - I fucking despise this series, it's boring as shit, my sister's ex who lived with me at one point was ALWAYS playing the third one. He even had the map up on the wall. So fucking boring.
Star Ocean - can't say I've played this series. You do love your Square/Enix games don't you? They are all too similar for my liking.
Suikoden 3 - another RPG with a team of people, all with a certain amount of hit points. Boring.
Zelda: Ocarina Of Time - Yep. Played it and loved it, but not as much as Link To The Past, and about the same as Link's Awakening DX.
Resident Evil 4 - briefly. I'm not a big RE fan. Enjoyed the first 2, didn't like the third, really liked Code Veronica.
MGS - The Playstation versions bore the shit out of me. The old school NES "Metal Gear" games are fairly enjoyable though.

Some people also regard Shenmue as the best RPG ever created. Chrono Trigger is very repetitive and limited IMO.
Please, there's a common engine that is the core of all Square/Enix games. You can pick out similarites with pretty much their whole catalogue.
Id rather play Super Mario Bros than Chrono Trigger, or any 2D rpg for that matter, they bore me to shit.
The only reason I like some RPGs is if they have a good game engine and merge action with them.
I really liked Jade Empire for that reason and the Star Wars RPGs on Xbox. But still, Shenmue is just on a whole nother level from those games.

Chrono Trigger for the fucking win. I've finished that game at least 10 times. Magus is such a bad ass.
Link to the Past = best Zelda ever. Even the one on the NES is great (not the one called "Link"), oh so many memories. I could never really get into the whole Zelda 3D thing.

Personally, I love A Link To The Past, but I can't sit down and play it right now and feel it the way I did back when I loved it because it was the best at the time. The graphics steer me away. You can only have so much fun with the limited controls and gameplay that game offers. I mean, okay, hitting some bushes, then some enemies, then some more bushes, then walking into a house, breaking a wall, going out the secret backdoor, hitting some more bushes, finding a new item, then having to run to the other opposite corner of the map can only keep you interested for so long right.
But I do get tired of shit easily and soon as I move on I forget all about it, that's just the way I am so that's individual.
I'll still retain that rating Mario Kart and Shenmue by the same measure doesn't seem right to me. Shenmue, I had a friend who loved it but I never really got into it. I played about an hour or two into it and figured "fuck this". Interacting with animals and balls in boxes and socks in drawers doesn't quite do it for me, I'm more about the story, and well, I think asian culture is boring for the most part, contrary to most people. Granted, I don't even remember what happens in the intro movie cutscene if there is one, but I think the story started out sorta slow.

Shenmue has one of the best storylines ever. If what you said is what you think it's about then you somehow managed to miss the entire point. Given that you didn't play it for very long, I'm not suprised.
