HIV fears as girl of 8 attacks classmates
By A Correspondent
AN EIGHT-YEAR-OLD girl pricked 19 classmates with her mother’s diabetes blood-testing needle, and one of them tested positive for HIV in a preliminary test, health officials said.

The officials added that the virus could not have been contracted from the needle, adding that preliminary tests can yield false positives.

The risk to students who were pricked after the possibly infected child depended on factors including how deep the needle went, they said.

The girl used the needle at breakfast, at lunch and in the classroom at Taylor Elementary School in Philadelphia on Wednesday.

It was about a centimetre long and stuck on the end of what looked like a pen, according to school officials. They were unable to say why the pupil did it.

She was suspended, Paul Vallas, the school district’s chief executive, said.

The Centres for Disease Control and Prevention says that the risk of HIV infection after a needle prick is low, with an average of 1 in 300 cases leading to infection. (AP)

Kinda makes me sick to read it and think someone would be that dumb, 8 years old or not. I knew better than to do that type of shit when I was 8.

And you gotta think, how utterly irresponsible is the mother for allowing the needle to fall into her child's hands? ugh.

When i was 8 i can remember how fun it was to put tacks on other kids chairs...so i can kinda relate. It's not like the kid knew it was HIV infected...but i'd still be pissed as hell if i got HIV from that shit!

Yep that was in DC, and that girl and her mother are some stupid bitches. Look at it like this that girl is never gonna have anymore friends, and for the rest of her time in School it's gonna be straight Hell for her, and her Mother is gonna be criticized for the rest of her life.

Life from now on isn't gonna be so good to both of them.

I agree. Anybody with an ounce of common sense should know better than to leave something like that where a child can get ahold of it. But you know, common sense is a blessing, not a given.

That might work, but then whiny people would bitch about "unnessesary" hundcuffing and complain about police brutality in our world today. Oh well, lock her up. :thumb:
