Arlington Va., (AP)-- A 30-millimeter antitank weapon discharged at a service station today, apparently as a man was trying to sell it, setting off a fire and explosion that injured three people, the authorities said.
Lieut. Steve Hinson of the Arlington County fire department said the man, who had parked a pickup truck at the gasoline station in suburban Washington, was showing the weapon to another man when it went off, firing a round into a nearby gas pump. Both men were arrested.
The blast, which was heard for 10 blocks, sent metal fragments flying through the air, according to the police and witnesses.
The two men were charged with transportation and manufacture of an explosive device, which is a felony, said an Arlington police spokesman, Tom Bell.
Susupects Tried to Flee
Mr. Bell identified the pair as Robert Delgir, 54 years old, and Joseph Donahue, 40. He said Mr. Delgir was arrested about three miles from the scene after he drove away in his charred truck. Mr. Donahue, who fled on foot, was caught nearby.
Two of the people injured, a 64-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman, were listed in serious condition at Northerm Virginia Doctors' Hospital with what emergency room workers called "projectile injuries."
Another woman, identified as Eida Gargadi, 60, of Arlington, was listed in stable condition at Arlington Hospital with cuts.

Let's see, not only is this guy trying to sell an antitank weapon, but he brings it to a gas station and then has it aimed directly at a pump in case it accidently discharges! Two ppl in serious condition.
Only in the US.
