░▒▓100 Songs A Hip Hop Fan Should Hear Before They're Dead.▓▒░

I was watching some food show on TV and that's kinda what inspired me to make this thread. It was some 10 (or whatever it was) places to eat before you die type thing. It's pretty self explanatory. I (and I only) will post 100 songs I think a real Hip Hop fan should hear before they die. I'll add one or more songs each day. I'll post a link to download the song and probably also give you a quote or two from the song as well. Download the music, post and do what you want. All I ask is that you don't post any songs in here yourself. I'm gonna be the one doing that. :thumb:

1. Gangstarr - Moment Of Truth
http://www.zshare.net/audio/3635495ab1dcb4/
Album: Moment Of Truth (1998)

"The same sheisty cats that you hang with, and do your thang with
could set you up and wet you up, nigga peep the language
It's universal, you play with fire it may hurt you
or burn you, lessons are blessings you should learn through
Let's face facts, although MC's lace tracks
it doesn't mean behind the scenes there ain't no dirt to trace back
That goes for all of us, there ain't nobody to trust
It's like sabotage, it's got me ready to bust
But I can't jeapordize, what I have done up to this point
So I'ma get more guys, to help me run the whole joint
Cultivate, multiply, motivate, or else we'll die
You know I be the masterof the who what where and why
See when you're shinin, some chumps'll wanna dull ya
Always selfish jealous punks, will wanna pull ya
down, just like some shellfish in a bucket
cause they love it, to see your ass squirm like a worm
But just as you'll receive what is comin to you
Everybody else is gonna get theirs too
I ain't no saint, therefore I cannot dispute
That everyone must meet their moment of truth"

2. A Tribe Called Quest - Scenario
http://www.zshare.net/audio/3635519e312287/
Album: The Low End Theory (1991)

"As I combine all the juice from the mind
Heel up, reel up, bring it back, come rewind
Powerful impact BOOM! from the cannon
Not braggin, try to read my mind just imagine
Vo-cab-u-lary's necessary
When diggin into my library
Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh!
Eating ayea toadstool like the one Peter Tosh-a
Uh, uh uhh, alone with the track man
Uh, pardon me, uhh, as I come back
As I did it yo I heard you beg your pardon
When I travel to the Sun I roll with the squadron
RRRRRROAW RRRRRRROAW like a dungeon dragon
Change your little drawers cause your pants are saggin
Try to step to this, I will, fits you in a turban
And had you smellin right, like some old stale urine
Checkady-choco, the chocolate chicken
The rear cock diesel, for chicks they were kickin
Yo, bustin out before the Busta bust a nut the rhyme
the rhythm is in sync (UHH!) the rhymes are on time (TIME!)
Rippin up this dance just like a radio
Observe the vibe and check out the scenario!!"

3. Wu-Tang Clan - C.R.E.A.M.
http://www.zshare.net/audio/3635590cb109b2/
Album: Enter the Wu-Tang: 36 Chambers (1993)

"I grew up on the crime side, the New York Times side
Staying alive was no jive
At second hands, moms bounced on old man
So then we moved to Shaolin land
A young youth, yo rockin the gold tooth, 'Lo goose
Only way, I begin to gee off was drug loot
And let's start it like this son, rollin with this one
And that one, pullin out gats for fun
But it was just a dream for the teen, who was a fiend
Started smokin woolies at sixteen
And running up in gates, and doing hits for high stakes
Making my way on fire escapes
No question I would speed, for cracks and weed
The combination made my eyes bleed
No question I would flow off, and try to get the dough all
Sticking up white boys in ball courts
My life got no better, same damn 'Lo sweater
Times is ruff and tuff like leather
Figured out I went the wrong route
So I got with a sick ass click and went all out
Catchin keys from across seas
Rollin in MPV's, every week we made forty G's
Yo nigga respect mine, or anger the tech nine
Ch-chick-POW! Move from the gate now"

I like this thread's concept. great idea :thumb:

I got sick of all those mtv, billboard or other nooby greatest hip-hop compilations etc.

I respect your knowledge on hip-hop and thus I'm sure your posted songs will really be the dopest and if I'd like to see somebody's list of "songs you have to hear" it would be your list. I'm sure it would be the most accurate one.

Whats the difference between this and the dope tracks thread.
I knew someone would ask, haha. That's just a bunch of good songs. These will obviously be a bunch of good songs as well, but it's a much more narrowed down list that will mostly consist of classic (or just great) songs that Hip Hop fans should really hear.

4. Onyx - Slam
http://www.zshare.net/audio/3642136ab9cb0e/
Album: Bacdafuckup (1993)

"I'm a b-boy
Standin in my b-boy stance
Hurry up and give me the microphone before I bust in my pants
The mad author of anguish; my language, polluted
Onyx is heavyweight (Sonsee: And still undisputed!!)
He took the words right out my mouth and walked a mile in my shoes
I've paid so many dues, I feel used and abused
And I'm.... so confused
umm, excuse me, for example
I'm the inspiration, of a WHOLE generation
And unless you got 10 SSsssticky Fingers
Its straight immitation
A figment, of your imagination
But but but but wait it gets worse!!
I'm not watered down so I'm dyin of thirst
Comin thru wit a scam, a foolproof plan
B-boys make some noise, and just, JUST SLAM!"

5. Juice Crew - The Symphony
http://www.zshare.net/audio/36422373377917/
Album: n/a (1988)

"Settin' it off, lettin' it off, beginnin'.
Rough to the endin', you never been in
to move the groove with the smooth rap lord;
like a bottle of juice, rhymes are being poured.
Down your ear, crisp and clear,
as I prepare to wear, tear and smear -- then I'm outta here.
With a mark left that you can all cling.
Cuz rockin' a party? Yo, it's a small thing.
I rip many places on regular basis, and broken down mics were the only traces
that I'd been there and there at the party.
The mic had my prints, and on it was a body.
So take caution. I'm not horsin' around in a throwdown, clown,
I'm takin' yours son.
So just acknowledge the way that I kick it,
cuz if rap was a house, you'd be evicted.
And dismissed from the microphone, chokin' on a bone, cuz Daddy's home.
And battlin' me is hazardous to health,
so put a quarter in your ass, cuz ya played yourself
Like a game in the arcade. You need a far aid.
I'm walkin' the path that Allah made.
I'll attend and then begin to send a speech to reach and teach,
so just say when.
So I can let lyrics blast like a bullet.
My mouth is the gun; on suckers I pull it.
The trigger, ya figure, my pockets gettin' bigger,
cuz when it comes to money, yo, Grant's my nigga!
You've got the groove, MCs, freeze, stand still, nobody move.
It's a sabotage, as I take charge. Don't barge, cuz gotdamn, I'm livin' large
like a giant. You're nothin' but a midget, a small digit.
You ain't hit it, forget it, quit it.
I reign superior, always takin' care o'ya.
No-frill rappers, you will evaporate, disintegrate, deflate to your fate,
as the great will dominate straight to the state
of reignin', gainin. So put Kane in, that category. Period. End of story..."

6. Mos Def - Travellin' Man
http://www.zshare.net/audio/3642315c9ce79c/
Album: n/a (1998)

"But God willin' I'll be back home
To drop these heavy ass bags up off my backbone
Around the world with a catalog of rap songs
My baby girl is walkin, been away for that long
But no you haven't well least that's how it seem to me
My home town is like a whole different scenery
The old timers on the stoop leaning leisurely
The new jacks up in the bar smokin greenery
Easily taken for granted when you up in it but its sweet scented
When you been down for a minute
Move around city limits
Break it down with the vintage
The innovative
Classical B-Boy image
Collect the winnings
Cause that's the reason that we came here
This thing is not a game here
The fortune not the fame here
From New York to the Cakalaks
Cali in the Cadillacs
Chicago know we innovate
Infiltrate Virginia State
DC make me stimulate
Philly know we penetrate
Georgia make us generate
Let's set a date to get the papes
They celebrate to my jams in foreign lands
Even your mans in Japan know who I am
Minasan, like everybody out in Nippon
Say ichiban, may God have well where you're getting from
Phenomenon, 'scuse me that's a phone call
Its the show y'all
Tryin' to get this dough y'all
'Bout to blow y'all
Been a pleasure to know y'all
And I'm lettin' you know that..."

7. Kool G Rap ft. Nas - Fast Life
http://www.zshare.net/audio/364252460b01cd/
Album: 4, 5, 6 (1995)

"Yo I got, guns from italy, smoke trees, considerably
Mid-state and green it seems, is where all my niggaz be
The ghetto misery, shootouts and liquor stores
A perpendicular, angle of the clout war
Police searchin up my lex over whos petrol
My tech blows straight off the roof and tests yo respect though
But dough dont respect me, it got me handcuffed
The rough life, I just be up nights, breathin with scuffed nikes
Pour my beers for my peoples under the stairs
These years I got they names in my swears
Poppin cristal like its my first child, lickin shots, holiday style
Rockin steele sweaters, wallaby down
Twenty-four carats, countin cabbage, like the arabs
The marriage of me and the mic is just like magic
Elegant performance, bubble lex full insurance
Guzzlin guinness shootin catchin cases concurrent
Its nas, seven hundred wives, king solomon size
We on the rise, me and g, ghetto wise guys
The luciano frankie aiel, bugsy seagal
Green papers with eagles from a tray thats illegal"

8. Eric B. & Rakim - In The Ghetto
http://www.zshare.net/audio/3642559dbf8e11/
Album: Let The Rhythm Hit 'Em (1990)

"Planet Earth was my place of birth
Born to be the SOLE controller of the universe
Besides the part of the map I hit first
Any environment I can adapt when it gets worst
The rough gets going, the going gets rough
When I start flowing, the mic might bust
The next state, I shake from the power I generate
People in Cali used to think it was earthquakes
'Cause times was hard on the Boulevard
So I boguard and never get scarred I'm god
But it seems like I'm locked in hell
Looking over the edge but the R never fell
Or tripped or slipped 'cause my Nikes got grip
Stand on my own two feet and come equipped
Any stage I'm seen on, a mic I fiend on
I stand alone and need nothing to lean on
Going for self wit a long way to go
So much to say but I still flow slow
I come correct and I won't look back
'Cause it ain't where you're from, it's where"
