Thats why I mostly follow other leagues nowadays.

I've been worried for a while now about English football at grass roots and international level.

While fans may be delighted with their clubs new signings, I feel clubs youth systems are tinged with an element of neglect. Just think that quality players like Scholes, Giggs, Beckham. the Nevilles, Lampard, Ferdinand, Carragher, Gerrard...the list goes on. All these players came through their clubs youth system and established themselves as some as the best players in the world. This was during an era where foreign influxes of players was not as rife and more attention was focused on home-grown talent.

I'm not saying England has no hope for the future because we have some bright prospects coming up but it's becoming more difficult for them to make a name for themselves.

Anyway thats just my two cents, feel free to reply and call me a paranoid disillusionist.

Thats why I hope Fraizer Campbell gets a chance at Utd when we get him back from Spurs. I know Rossi isn't English but I'm still annoyed he was allowed to leave.

I think some English players need to go abroad, I would love to see how our highly rated players would do in more 'technical' leagues.

Up to date, Abramovich was the richest one at 11.5 BIL. Manchester City's new owners? 550 BIL...

I'm gonna stick to the Bundesliga, the English Premier is going down the shitter. lol...

yes, this is a good point and you are right.

all i know is my club (villa) are trying to keep the mentality of the club, british. this includes the players and maintaining the youth system.

yes i also admit that the lack of first team players over the past two seasons paved the way for english/british youth players from villa's academy to break through e.g. gabby, osbourne, gardner, o'halloran, cahill, ridgewell, delfouneso, baker. these last 2 arent british - steiber, mikaelson, but are very talented.

we are trying to buy experienced players, british and also have a mix of youth in the side too, which i think is working well. for instance take friedel, who may be coming to the end of his career in 4-5 years, his experience will allow for him to pass on invaluable advice to younger players, especially guzan who is his understudy.


not sure so much what other premiership club's academys are doing for their club's futures. but villa's academy is in my opinion doing a fantastic job.

its a shame that premiership clubs have less homegrown and nurtured talent coming through the ranks.

But the problem is that the young players simply arent good enough or have serious attitude problems.( take that C Palace guy for example). England just isnt producing many top players nowadays.

yea, there are different ways to look at it too. some players are being overlooked and therefore never get a proper chance. others for instance have setbacks, lenghty layoffs or careers ended (that manchester united reserves player comes to mind. he got compensation for it).

Possibly, but what if that kid at Man City, Sturrigde (Forgot his first name) he looks a talent, but what if Man City buy more world class attackers, will he have a chance to play? I doubt it.

If rumours were true that Man City bid for RVN/Huunterlaar/Villa.

I don't buy the "if theyre good enough they will get through" if a club spends £20 million on a striker that player will start pretty much every game. No matter how good a kid in the youth team is.

thats the thing, the price tag of the player who was bought would for some reason give them an automatic starting place ahead of everyone else.

so sometimes even when the expensive players dont play so well they still get picked ahead of the younger, yet unproven and hungry for sucess youths or reserve players. - which is a shame.

The money situation in the Premiership is ridiculus even before Man City.

Wasn't it finishing 16th in the Premiership, you would get the same amount of money as winning the Champions League. No wonder Steve Coppell and Reading opted out of the UEFA Cup a couple of seasons ago.

thats just how disaster strikes. hence why there were fears amongst birmingham city fans when carson yeung tried to take them over. because his past had involved him making managerial decisions for the manager instead of letting the manager do his job. interfering too much is the problem.
