Poor character as in lack of personality, its not just him, listen to their aftermatch thoughts, this is what they are:

Reporter: Good win for you guys tonight
Lamps (or any other player) Yeah was a hard game but we managed to win
Reporter: *insert team* made it very hard for you
Player: Yeah they played well, worked hard, we played well and got the win
Reporter: Were you happy with your goal?
Player: Yeah, but the team comes first


etc etc etc etc etc..

Players lack emotion, but when they show it they get fined or people see that as wrong.

When you say he has no character, do you mean that he isnt a character i.e funny or controversial like someone like Robbie Fowler for example?

As in personality. Some sort of emotion, anything like that. Im not just saying Lampard I never brought him up, this was a general statement about footballers.

It's been said many times the characters have gone in football.

I predict an epic failure for Shearer. It's ok sitting on a couch and analyzing games on Match of the Day but running a Premiership Club is something else, you never know he could surpise me..

^ Agreed, analyzing from the safety of the studio is entirely different than actually coaching the club BEFORE the match, hehe.

Then again, as you say, he could surprise us.

Does Shearer have any experience in coaching whatsoever? I assume you need some kind of diploma?

As far as i'm aware he has zero coaching experience apart from being on the recieving end as a player. Technically you are suppose to posess certain coaching badges before you can manage but I think aslong as you commit to obtaining them somwhere down the line then no-one cares. Similar thing with Gareth Southgate.

yep, i was just about to mention southgate.

but i guess because hes a legend at newcastle he could be an inspiration to the team and lift their spirits.

He can't really lose by taking the job now. If he keeps them up he's a hero, if they go down he can just say he had too little time and not enough games to turn things around.

Well, starting somewhere is one thing, but this is right into the deep end. I dunno if Newcastle (and Shearer) are wise to jump into this. The side might get relegated and Shearer's coaching career may well end before it even really started.

Then again, as mentioned before, he could surprise.

Undoubtedly. Probably raise the players' morale a bit too, but the real challenge is on the pitch. Very curious as how this will turn out.

Championship football is about his level.

Duff is finished. He isnt near player he was. He might not get his place back in the Ireland team now after Hunt's display tonight.

Colocinni did start great, But Newcastle could buy any defender and he will turn out to be awful...well Bassong is pretty good actually.
