Supposedly they were planning to, and even had a few pre-prod Nexus S models sent out to top level people on the Android dev team, but then someone made the call to change it to a dual-core processor to compete with the other dual core phones coming out in Q1 like the LG Star and Moto Olympus.

im really considering doing the same too since i can now upgrade. need to speak to a friend of mine and see if he can get me that discount on O2. im just thinking about the barriers to rooting and how quick/difficult it will be. i'd love to keep the new htc sense because of the remote access features, but CM is why i have that device in my top 2 or 3.

speaking of which my friend purchased one last week. just discovered on saturday my aunty has the X10 mini and my cousin (the WinMo fanatic) currently has the HTC Wildfire and ive told her to get the HTC Desire Z.
I already looked up the root instructions for the DZ on XDA. It's piss easy. Wayyyyyy easier than it was to root a G1 at first, and I did that on 1.5 before 1.6 made it even easier with the one click root exploit.

It's literally installing an .apk and then typing in a handful of adb commands which somebody is probably writing a quick automatic batch file to do right now. Looks like it'll take less than 10 minutes to root and flash a custom recovery and ROM.

Also, a couple of extra commands listed in the same post also SIM unlock the DZ, which is handy.

I'm going to mull it over for the next few days, but I'm 90% sure I want one. On December 23rd, I'll have had my G1 for exactly 2 years. Defo time for an upgrade, especially as I keep running out of memory and having to clear caches every few days.

I kinda wish that GB had major aesthetic upgrades rather than being a not so major one. I dunno what exactly they would change, but it needs to refreshed while still keeping what's been good about the OS so far.

Either that or the features on it better be mind-blowing.

So it's December. Where are the new phones for the Holiday season? I'm trying to get a fucking new dope Android phone and they're not helping me out.

I think I'm gonna bite the bullet and get a Desire Z. It has permanent root and CyanogenMod now.

I want a Nexus S, but I'm not ready to give up the ease of a QWERTY. I write too damn much lol, I'd be compromising myself to limit myself to just a touchscreen keyboard.

Gingerbread is scheduled to be announced tomorrow, for the record.

I'm wondering the same thing. A few months ago, it seemed like the big announcements were saying early-2011. I figured as we got closer to the Holidays some would just be announced on short-notice but still be quality phones. Not the case, it seems.

But then last year there really weren't any big name phones in December. The Droid was released in late-October or November? The Nexus was the big one and that was just at the turn of 2010, first few days of January. Maybe that's what'll happen this year too.

The N1 suffered from a post-Xmas release. Everyone gets new phones for Xmas. They won't make the same mistake again. I imagine Rubin will announce it tomorrow and it'll be available in a week or so.

6.1 has a stable release. Probably not gonna try it, though. Not after RC1 or 2 and 6.0 just not suiting me well.

Oh, and I too can second that GB rumors indicate that it will be announced tomorrow. So what I'm wondering is will we know everything it has to offer, or will they merely officially just say "hey, it's coming..more details soon?"

And it won't mean much until we get the build from an N1 and be able to build a ROM from the source.

Damn I can't even use the stable right now because I flashed the new radio and Cyan says new radio one will be up this week, lol damn. I'm running fast with biffmod so I'm gonna keep this til I can flash CM with the new radio.

It's here!

Official Google Blog: Introducing Nexus S with Gingerbread

The very first Android phone hit the market in November 2008. Just over two years later, Android’s vision of openness has spurred the development of more than 100 different Android devices. Today, more than 200,000 Android devices are activated daily worldwide. The volume and variety of Android devices continues to surpass our wildest expectations—but we’re not slowing down.

Today, we’re pleased to introduce the latest version of the Android platform, Gingerbread, and unveil the next Android device from the Nexus line of mobile products—Nexus S. And for developers, the Gingerbread SDK/NDK is now available as well.

Nexus S is the lead device for the Gingerbread/Android 2.3 release; it’s the first Android device to ship with the new version of the Android platform. We co-developed this product with Samsung—ensuring tight integration of hardware and software to highlight the latest advancements of the Android platform. As part of the Nexus brand, Nexus S delivers what we call a “pure Google” experience: unlocked, unfiltered access to the best Google mobile services and the latest and greatest Android releases and updates.

Take a look at our backstory video for more on the vision behind this product and to understand why we think “a thousand heads are better than one”:

Nexus S is the first smartphone to feature a 4” Contour Display designed to fit comfortably in the palm of your hand and along the side of your face. It also features a 1GHz Hummingbird processor, front and rear facing cameras, 16GB of internal memory, and NFC (near field communication) hardware that lets you read information from NFC tags. NFC is a fast, versatile short-range wireless technology that can be embedded in all kinds of everyday objects like movie posters, stickers and t-shirts.

Gingerbread is the fastest version of Android yet, and it delivers a number of improvements, such as user interface refinements, NFC support, a new keyboard and text selection tool, Internet (VoIP/SIP) calling, improved copy/paste functionality and gyroscope sensor support.

Here’s a glimpse of the “magic” of Google on Nexus S:

You can find more Nexus S videos and information at google.com/nexus or follow @GoogleNexus on Twitter for the latest updates. After December 16, Nexus S can be purchased (unlocked or with a T-Mobile service plan) online and in-store from all Best Buy and Best Buy Mobile stores in the U.S. and after December 20 at Carphone Warehouse and Best Buy retailers in the U.K.

We’ll be open-sourcing Gingerbread in the coming weeks and look forward to new contributions from the Android ecosystem in the months ahead.

They're saying T-Mobile gets it first. Hope the rest get it too and it doesn't end up being swept under the rug like last time because the Incredible and EVO came out.

There was another Engadget article that seems to have been pulled, but it said that Nexus One owners were getting 2.3 pushed to their phones. Maybe a false call.

I love this so much better than cut and paste is now. iOS had it right:

Fuck it, I want a Nexus S. If I don't get used to the lack of a physical keyboard within a couple months, I'll sell it and get something else. TechCrunch's review said there's no external storage support though, which is kind of a bummer, but at least there's 16GB internal. Hmm. Gonna have to think this one over for a few days.....ah, I'm torn.

What you guys think? Android 7 theme, can use whatever picture or text, it's your preference, I'm digging it.

Casey. facebook, messaging, twitter, calendar. Doing some digging the creator of Launcherpro twitted anderwebs and asked about the widgets working with adw, ander of course agree. I guess they're working on it.
