^Yeah, I meant the apps. It's not that slim, but alright maybe bulky was too strong of a word. Either way, I don't think I want to carry it around in my pocket.
The Galaxy S is less than 1cm in its thickest point which places it amongst the slimmest phones on the market - hands down the slimmest Android phone.
I know what you mean by it being rather on the big side - it carries a 4 inch screen after all. But it really fits the pocket very well because it's really slim and lightweight.

It still doesn't change my belief lol but keep throwing those numbers around.
Opinions like that might change someone else's beliefs though :p
Yeah I was just surprised that you considered it to be bulky because while this phone indeed feels big imo it's very slim and specs prove that.

Well, I held it in my hand, you know? And I thought to myself that this isn't what I want to carry around and hold in my hands all the time. I felt the same about the HTC Evo when I got around to playing with it. My G1 is slowing down but I feel that I can still maintain until an Android phone I really like comes along, and hopefully that's by Xmas. If not, there's always that white iPhone 4G that should come out soon. :D

anyway, smacky. what does ROM Manager do? does it allow you to have ROMs from different developers on one device allowing you to dual boot different ones on startup?

Yeah. You'll need to download the free version first and then install the file (.apk) I posted to give you premium license, or something. But it's pretty neat. It auto updates your ROM for you as well. And you can change ROMs on the fly, instead of having to download them to a computer and then transfer them.

I am reading about a "fear" by some people that are looking at getting a Galaxy S, yet they think that the phone will not be supported for long, because "it's Samsung."

Any truth to this? Regardless of their past record, whatever it may be, don't you think they'll support this thing for a good amount of time and not "abandon" it like some fear?

do a nandroid and a mybackup pro backup and wipe your phone from the boot menu. works like a charm for me. i had 8MB of free memory prior to wiping, now i have ovre 50MB. and i dont even know what was occupying that space. i tried cleaning the dalvik cache and moving it to the sd card, also tried clearing the app cache. those didnt work, but the system wipe did.

im assuming you've rooted your G1 and running a CM mod...

Well that's kind of pointless since it's actually almost as big as the Galaxy S, has a smaller display and is much heavier.

Why? The only phone that they're not supporting anymore is the original Samsung Galaxy because they failed hardware-wise. It can't handle Android 2.x. However they are still releasing 1.6 updates.
The Galaxy Spica which is a mid-end Android phone released last year with Android 1.5 was updated to 2.1 this year, is getting official updates at least once a month (there were 3 updates in July alone) and Android 2.2 is being tested for it as we speak. They often leak unofficial firmware if they can't do an official update though.
The Galaxy S is Samsung's flagship Android phone and even IF Samsung stops supporting it there's a community of haxors that is getting really big.

my friend who recently bought a HTC Desire on the Orange UK network was mentioning something about payinf £20 for android releases. which i thought was odd since the custom roms and ota updates are free with unlimited data or a monthly data allowance.

i think it was from some group. then again Orange have been called the AT&T of the UK so i dont know what the deal with their desires is - maybe bloatware and locked down devices.

im going to try gentle app out tonight and test it. i did test another app which uses the sleep cycles to measure, delta, beta and alpha activity to detect which phase of sleep you were in - it would attempt to wake you up in phase 1, alpha actvity (most consciousness). however it drained the battery and you had to leave it on your bed. so the one night i used it, it didnt work too well. i didnt want to drop the phone down the side of my bed either... so... lets see what gentle alarm is like come 7am tomorrow. hope it wakes me up nicely since its 23:30 now and my brother wants me to watch spiderman 3 with him.

Are they gonna update Sense anytime soon? Maybe refresh the look a bit?
Doubtful. What HTC are trying to achieve with Sense is uniformity. A UI that is quite obviously them, and looks essentially exactly the same across all their hardware, no matter the spec, or even the OS (Sense on WinMo looks pretty much exactly the same as it does on Android).

I don't think it's going to change any time soon.
