I have a serious problem with my G1, I can't update any apps that have updates available. I go to update and it either hangs on "Starting Download" or "Authorizing Purchase" depending on whether it was a free or paid for app. I haven't tried to install new apps yet, but has any one got any idea what the problem is?

What firmware/OS version are you running?

Im getting some problems with 5.08, messages aren't sending...SD card not being read problems..etc etc. I need something stable

I know many many people have had the problem with the G1, like you go to take a picture and it says please insert SD card even though there is one in the phone...What was the EVO update, I know it had something to do with the SD card not being read, I wonder if it would help, any ideas?

/\ Make a thread on CyanogenMod or XDA forums, or do a search to see if other people have had those issues and what they did to fix them.

I'm not having any of those issues with 5.08, so it can't be the ROM.

What recovery image are you using? Amon-RA's one?

I would try backing all your data up using MyBackup or Titanium Backup, boot to recovery, and if you're using Amon-RA's recovery there'll be options to wipe the data, wipe the dalvik cache, etc. Then reboot into the ROM and restore your data from the programs you used. See if that helps.

I wiped everything before i installed 5.0.8...and just cus it doesn't happen to you doesn't mean it's a not a bug...that's why they have tests and 5.0.8 is still test 1 and not stable. I think it's test 1 still at least lol

The SD card thing is a known issue with the G1, people have gone as far as making little bumpers of styrofoam and putting em on the phone to apply constant pressure to the SD card, its whatever.

Seriously though, I'm already over this phone, besides the screen it's kinda meh. I'll wait til later this year to upgrade from the G1 like most people
Why? It's got ERRRYTHING!!11

No, really. What's meh about it in your opinion? :p
Technically it's superior to everything, it's slim and looks awesome.
It'd understand Casey disliking the TouchWiz UI though but it adds a few points to overall coolness:

I'm in love with this phone. Money over bitches though :(

The design of the Galaxy S, actually all Samsung phones is kinda meh to me.

HTC and Motorola both make way better designs IMO.

Can't front on the power of the Galaxy S tho.. but I'm still holding out for the DroidPro later this year.

I like Samsung's design the most. HTC is also alright. I dislike Motorolas though.
The last time I liked Motorola designs was when they were known for their clamshell phones.
Some Toshiba phones are very stylish but they suck software-wise. Oh and SonyEricsson with their new Sharp-wannabe Bravia phones looks quite nice. I still think that Sharps look way superior but they're Japan-only:

IMO the Motorola Droid is the sexiest looking Android phone on the Market, followed by the HTC Legend and Nexus One.

Samsung's designs are not innovative or interesting. They're just blah. And that's not just their Android phones, I've never liked the design of any Samsung phone.

Even when I disliked Samsung I thought they're design team is very good - from TVs, PC displays to Mobile phones - even low ends. I used to dislike these round shapes they tend to use and maybe that's also the case with you but now I enjoy them. I think the Galaxy S would be the nicest looking Android phone followed by HTC Desire. That's of course just my opinion and each to their own :p

To be fair though I dislike the new Galaxy A which was supposed to be a "new Spica" but turned out to be for Korean market only.

Even though it has nice specs for it's speculated price. Probably that "Android" thing will be replaced by "Samsung" but still it looks a bit like a cheap plastic phone. I also dislike their new "Wave" series if it comes to design but I love their slim and smooth form factor.

Motorola Droid is the only modern Motorola phone I like but it doesn't look any special in my opinion. It's just nice.

Which also runs 2.1 :p

Portal (UK) = Spica (Worldwide)
There has been no OTA update from T-Mobile for the Portal, I have one in my hand which is still on 1.5 and i've done a manual OTA check to see.

I have researched it though and I see I can update this one manually (belongs to my dad).

Samsungs don't update OTA. You have to download Samsung's program, connect it to your PC and it auto-updates. There's a 2.1 update since early 2010 for it. 2.2 (at least unofficial version) is coming soon. Maybe branded UK versions act somehow differently because we don't have these here.
