I think it's a D-Pad but circular.

Same placement as the one on the Droid.

I like the look of the keyboard on that new LG.

Although I don't understand why the G1 is still the ONLY Android phone with a 5-row keyboard.

I hope Moto put a 5-row in the upcoming Shadow/Nexus Two but somehow I doubt they will.

Got my Desire. Pretty awesome .
Sweet!!! Question - does the HTC Sense interface on it have live wallpapers? I flashed a 2.1 Sense ROM onto my cousins Hero and it didn't have the live wallpapers.

Did you try rooting it yet? I know they figured out the initial root but I didn't check if there's any custom ROM's for the Desire yet. Another of my cousins is getting a Desire soon so I'm hoping there'll be some good custom ROM's. The one I flashed on my cousins Hero has the unlocked Google Navigation working 100% so I'm hoping that'll be included on a custom Desire ROM.

EDIT- nevermind, just saw the good news. NpRussell who made the ROM that my cousin has on his Hero has stated that he'll be making Desire ROM's also. That's good news!

Yea got Live Wallpapers, not rooted yet because although it's been done, got no access to the system partition so not much use yet. Can flash my Orange ROM to Generic HTC tho with a goldcard.

My Spica has the newest TouchWiz and I find it really awesome and superior to standard Android UI which was neat but boring. It's way more attractive than HTC's Sense UI imo.
Probably it'd be a different story with a rooted device but I don't need to root my Spica to do everything I'd like to do - especially with many custom Samsung's solutions. I can finally change the way everything looks.
On the other hand it's a shame that Samsung did cut down some things that occur in generic 2.1 like Gallery - it's replaced with Samsung's gallery which is not 3d. Same with mp3 and video player (they are superior though with Divx and Xvid support) and a few other apps.

edit: I'm surprised how the new Xperia sucks if it comes to graphics. It's exactly 10 times worse than my Spica in benchmarks.
On the other hand I'm surprised how fast the 1ghz Snapdragon is. Over 500 points in CPU benchmark (as compared to about 340 in my Samsung's 800mhz processor and about 200 points in Qualcomm 600mhz processor in HTC Legend).

LOL at Steve "I'm a douchebag" Jobs

There is no doubt that the Apple and Android battle has heated up, and things have gotten much more personal between the company’s respective CEO’s – Steve Jobs and Eric Schmidt – in the past few months. I feel like Steve Jobs’ feels a sense of pressure, and as questions about Android’s success mount in relation to Apple, Steve Jobs just wants you to shutup and understand that Apple is better.

Take for example the question Ryan Block from GDGT asked the panel after the iPhone OS 4.0 event:

What about running unsigned apps?

You’re going to love Steve Jobs’ response:

You know, there’s a porn store for Android. Anyone can download them. You can, your kids can. That’s just not a place we want to go.

Credit goes to Engadget – we found the Q&A tidbit in their live event coverage – and boy did we get a kick out of it.

Jobs’ is right, and we have covered the “Porn Store” he is mentioning – it’s called MiKandi. But does Mr. Jobs know that “You can, your kids can,” use your iPhone’s web browser to search “porn” and “porn store” and find all sorts of yummy adult content. Give me a break – if people really want it their going to find it and get it.

There is something to be said for Jobs’ desire to retain Disney-like control of his company’s moral stature and attempting to ensure the safest experience for its customers. Fine, I get it, admirable and wonderful. But taking a swing at Android for allowing users to do what they want?

I appreciate that Google treats its smartphone customers like adults. Maybe Mr. Jobs can prepackage the new iPhone 4X with a bib, airplane spoon and some Gerber.

It's not iPhone OS information.

It's Steve talking about Android. ANDROID is the subject matter of this particular quote.

Steve can't get his mind off of what Google are doing even at his own event.

You'd never see Andy Rubin, Sergey Brin, Larry Page or Eric Schmidt talking about whatever it is Apple are doing at an Android event - why? Because they aren't interested in what Apple do, they're not intimidated by competition, and they have more class than that.

Steve is talking to very simple people - the casual Iphone crowd. That's the difference. Android is way more sophisticated and elite. Apple wants to feed their fans and make them think that Iphone OS is what Android really is - they want them to think that they are getting something "rare and better" despite being worse and mainstream And that's why Stevie is mad. He's out of tricks except of trying to match with its competition (multitasking) and marketing. Now instead of thinking "we will finally catch up with some beta version of multi-touch - something our competition had since years" brainwashed fanboys will say "oh now we will have it too, now what, Android?". If you can't see what's wrong with that you're brainwashed too! :p
And we know you are fourteen <3

Apple succeeded because it reached people who were too lazy, stupid or otherwise failed to check things out for themselves and then wanted to feel comforted that they made the right choice - that's a whole marketing system based around this. Making people feel comforted with inspirational speeches and big words like "innovation" or "best/awesome" without any reasons rather than comparing themselves to better things.
When there's a clearly better system getting popular thanks to a different marketing system (mainly the quality marketing itself, technical sites and magazines, social media and word of mouth) even these people start thinking and Steve is mad. Now he has to think about new ways to make his device "the one and only" and somehow "better" while running away from direct collision with competition he would have no chance with.

Confirming the rumors, and after dismissing the iPad as nothing more than a large phone, Google is getting ready its own tablet computer. At least, that was what Google CEO—and Steve Jobs' own personal Judas—Eric Schmidt is saying.

According to the New York Times, Schmidt told friends about the new tablet at a recent party in Los Angeles. NYT's sources point out that Google has already been talking with publishers about delivering content for the platform. Surprisingly, Schmidt said it will not run Chrome OS—as recently shown by a Chrome OS engineer—but Android, making it the true big phone Schmidt was mocking. It makes sense to build on Android, since it already has applications.

/\ Bingo. Lots of people have been saying it recently, but I called it months ago. T-Mobile is essentially replacing the Sidekick range with the MyTouch range. Hence the Fender limited edition version of the original MyTouch, the same way they used to do those Sidekick special editions like the D-Wade SK3 and Mr.Cartoon SKII.

Well, this is the upcoming MyTouch Slide, scheduled to hit T-Mobile in the US pretty soon. Hardware manufactured by HTC, like the original MyTouch aka HTC Magic. Will come in different colors, like this red one:

Rocks the latest version of HTC's "Sense UI" that is different to other versions of that UI. This version is codenamed 'Espresso'. Sense UI is running on top of Android 2.1.

Spec-wise it's not a high-end phone, more upper mid-range.

These are the RUMORED spec.

Android 2.1 with HTC Sense UI
ARM 1136 Processor
256 MB RAM
512 MB ROM
320 x 480 TFT Touchscreen
3.2 MP Camera
MicroSD Expansion Slot
802.11g WiFi
GPS
1300 mAh Battery
Slide-out QWERTY Keyboard
A very solid Android device IMO. I like it a lot.

No videos yet, but some Android hackers, hacked a leak of the Espresso ROM onto an HTC Hero and took some footage of it. (HTC Hero comes with the original version of the Sense UI). Here's some footage of that, so basically the UI on the MyTouch Slide will look like this (although this ROM leak was last December so the software will more current by now):

Another interesting device coming out soon. The Motorola Twist, rockin Android 2.1 with Moto's "Motoblur" UI.

Continuing the trend they started with the Backflip, this one also has a pretty unique form factor.
