If we're talking about new Samsungs:

http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_roadmap_leaks_again_adds_a_wp7_handset_to_the_mix-news-3019.php

The previous leak was confirmed to be a fake, hope this one's true :)
http://techland.time.com/2011/08/19/nexus-prime-rumored-for-october-just-in-time-for-the-iphone-5/

Usually Nexus devices are set to be released every year around the holidays, right? How come it got bumped to October, the rumored release of t he iPhone 5? Apple dictating moves in Google now?
Just asking. Seems very odd. The exact opposite of what Apple did between the iPhone 4 and release of the 5. They pushed it back. Google brought theirs forward.

No. The Nexus One came out in January. The Nexus S came out in December. There's no set date. Also, the October release isn't officially confirmed. The timing is simply when they estimate that the software and top tier hardware is ready to be released. It has nothing to do with competitors. It's actually more to do with making sure Verizon customers have something new to get when their 2 year contracts for the original Motorola Droid run out, which is at the beginning of November. No coincidence, this time around the rumor is that VZW get the Nexus device first.

Also, that 4.6" 720p screen Samsung device with ICS and the Nexus Prime may = one and the same.

What a fucking mess. I feel sorry for ZTE, just a little manufacturer but getting sued by Ericsson and Huawei and probably over trivial matters. The patent system wasn't designed for this sort of thing.

Any of you guys planning on getting an SGS2 in the US/Canada? One of the variants is gonna have a 4.5" screen.... and is supposedly getting Quadrant scores of 3300+, which may mean they've bumped the processor clock speed slightly, because the regular SGS2 gets 3000-3100 on stock. I'm kinda jealous, 4.5" screen sounds epic win.
there was meant to be a 1.4GHz version of the S2, but with an LCD screen i believe.

At Last!!!

A brilliant superfast Honeycomb Rom for the Advent Vega.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1221336

Really looks like a bargain now. The only weak point is the screen. Which is fine if you are directly in front of it, just has poor viewing angles. You can get this tablet for £160 right now.
Advent Vega gets unofficial, GPU accelerated Android 3.2 port (video)

The surprisingly cheap, Tegra 2-powered Advent Vega just keeps getting better and better, thanks in large part to a dedicated community of developers and hackers. In May the £199 (about $329) tablet got its first taste from the Honeycomb pot, now Android 3.2 has been ported over and it's sporting full, native GPU acceleration. (Hip, hop, hooray!) There are some bugs, neither Bluetooth nor the camera are working yet, but for the most part it seems like a worthwhile hack for a slate that packs impressive hardware, but ships with a depressingly outdated OS. Check out the video of it in action after the break and hit up the source link to download the ROM.

If a shitload of devs buy TouchPads then I may be proved wrong, but I don't see a decent Honeycomb ROM appearing on a TouchPad for at least 4 months. Bear in mind the Honeycomb source isn't available so everything has to be constructed from the SDK and reverse engineered.

Even with the source available it would still be tough, so rushing out to buy a TouchPad hoping it might be able to run Android soon may not be the best idea.

Well, I think the tablet is great as it is right now. Running HC is merely an accessory reason for buying it. Using the tablet is the main priority and that I'll be able to do out of the box.

I'm sure with the flux of people buying TPs, a good few have to be developers that are working on it as we speak. The XDA thread is a good indication. I don't expect the devs to confirm they're working on it, let alone give progress reports on them. In the meantime, the rest of us have a fully functional tablet for a quarter of the cost of the competitors. LOL. "Us." I mean "them" those fucking bastards that bought four TPs online.

If anyone hears anymore news regarding what HP will do with the remainder of the TPs it gets from Best Buy and all, let me know. Or if you hear of a place that decides to sell it. I will run people over for one now.

No more....Mr. Nice Guy....

coonie, i think the potential is there, like the G1 being able to run Eclair and FroYo - no-one thought it would happen, but it did, and very successfully indeed.

i think that'd be a $99 project well invested similar to how i got a £65 Galaxy i5700 for my dad and modded it to enhance it. just so long as you know what you're doing then there's no problem with installing honeycomb on it. i'd say go for it.

RE: Nexus, yeah we've pretty much learned by this point that it's gonna be Samsung again. Also Andy Rubin recently mentioned that there's a "bidding process" as to which OEM gets to make each Nexus device.

Unfortunately we don't know what that process entails but it's most likely a combination of who can make the best spec'd and most impressive demo hardware, combined with what promises they make to Google (as far as their continued commitment to both Android and the OHA), and flexibility. For example, we already know that Google is working closely with Texas Instruments for Ice Cream Sandwich, the implication being that the ICS launch devices will be OMAP-powered. Nexus Prime leaked info indeed fits that bill, but Samsung would have had to go out of their way to make that happen because they usually use either their own processors (like the Exynos in the SGS2) , or NVIDIA ones (like the Tegra 2 that's in the Galaxy R and other devices). Not that Samsung haven't worked with TI before, they have, it's just a less common occurrence.

At one stage it was reported that HTC, LG and Samsung had all submitted demo hardware for the Nexus bidding process.

I think Samsung is definitely the right choice though. Their sales are through the roof, they've tied up deals with more carriers than anyone else, and most importantly they are making the best products right now. Pretty much every major tech blog - even the ones who have traditionally been more Apple-biased - have stated that the SGS2 is the best phone in the world right now, bar none. Having owned mine for 6 weeks now I have to agree because I simply cannot fault it in any way. I can't make even show a trace of lag even when I try to push it to the limit with CPU intensive apps, and updating well over 25 apps in the Market simultaneously. And the screen is just amazing.

You bump all those specs up even more - Nexus Prime is rumored to have a bigger screen, an even more improved display technology (Super AMOLED Plus HD) with a full 720p display resolution, a 1.5GhZ dual core processor, and of course Ice Cream Sandwich and you've clearly got a beast of epic proportions. I really think rival companies are gonna have to pull every last trick out of the bag to even compete.

Have you used webOS? Cos it frustrated the hell out of me the same way iOS does.
I'm picky, but I adapt very easily. I used iOS before Android. I like both. I used webOS in the store, and seemed to be ok with it, although I spent little time with it because I was more interested in the Android tablets. With the price drop, the focus switched.

I heard webOS has one of the best UIs out there. Not sure if they're talking about it being more intuitive or just simply better looking, kind of like Sense.

Quick question, can Honeycomb do Hangouts in Plus? Or just Android tablets in general? I don't think any phone can, despite having a front-facing camera. Just wasn't sure if the tablet version was different.

Yeah, webOS UI is very nice, that's what Matias Duarte had been doing for a couple of years before he joined Google about a year ago to work on Android.

Hangouts in G+ is browser only right now. But if you used an alternative browser like Dolphin HD and changed the Agent settings to "Desktop", it may be possible to get it working on Honeycomb. I imagine this is something they are working on though. Perhaps it'll show up in ICS.

webOS imho has the nicest UI of all mobile operating systems. That's why I really like it. Feels like Windows 7 mixed with Honeycomb. The worst thing about the OS is lack of apps.
The native web browser and multimedia players are okay too.

The TouchPad is a good tablet anyway, good hardware.

That's why I nabbed it. $99 is too good a deal even with no apps. I have iOS and Android for apps. I want the larger screen for the enhanced browsing and media experience. This is a bargain.

Still stuck on "shipping soon." Just gonna let it happen if it happens, and just get ready for school in a few weeks. Took my blood pressure today as part of clinical skills and it was 125/85. Guy asked if I was stressed. Haha. Been checking my email on my phone the whole day at work, just waiting for the dreaded cancellation email. Hopefully it just finally ships.
