I watch videos on my Xbox. Movies, I mean. If I have friends over or go to a friends and downloaded a movie we all wanted to watch, then the Xbox really comes in handy.

If you buy your DVDs and Blu-Rays, then it's another story. Maybe a home theatre is good for that.
XBox plays DVD, and i can stream hi def divx movies from my pc via mediacenter.

Well I was planning on getting Kinect until my 360 did the rings of death for the X time and Xbox declined fixing it, saying we modified our console (which btw was absolutely not true, we wouldn't open our 360, we wouldn't want to fuck it up). Since then, I got a PS3. Yes Kinect looks amazing, but I think that like the Wii, it'll be a gadget that will be fun to play with at first, but will end up collecting dust in the long run.

Like I said in the past, Kinect was designed with the intention to destroy the controller, the majority of future releases will be aimed at the kinect, rendering the controller useless. Dont forget Kinect operates as your main dashboard control, its not just something u plug in when you want to play a certain game, it will be what u plug in to play any game.

Kinect is the future. Don't judge it till you try it. You can't help but feel like this thing has the potential to change the gaming industry forever. It's incredibly advanced. We set up the face recognition for me, my cousin, his wife and their two kids and as soon as one of us stepped in front of it it recognises you and loads up your profile. Recognises all the voice commands we tried, and fast. After 10 minutes or so of getting used to it, you're effortlessly using your hands to navigate through the menu's like some fuckin Minority Report type shit, it's insane.

Like any technology though, it's success will depend on the quality of the games released for it. I've played Kinect Adventures and Kinect Joy Ride and even though those are basic functionality type games to get used to it, I was incredibly impressed by them. Like Gotti says, wait till you see the way developers are utilizing the technology a year from now and what range of titles are available.

Microsoft just won the console war for the foreseeable future with this one.

I agree, I was surprised at how accurate the voice and facial recognition was. So far its just my wife and I (I think we look pretty different :p) Im gonna try it with my brothers and see how accurate it is considering we look pretty similar

@Gotti as well. Kinect is good for stupid games like tennis and shit, sure. But there is no fucking way you could develop an fps, rpg, racing game, hockey game, wrestling game, etc for it anywhere in the near future. And doesn't kinect use like 50% of the systems power? Say goodbye to your sweet graphics.

That besides the point, probably 40 to 50 percent of the xbox population are fat useless shits that won't be wanting to use kinect.

And again other than the novelty of having it recognize my face to sign me in, what use is that? I'm the only one who uses my xbox.

You must have missed my previous post or never watched the Project Natal video, racing games are due soon, ive seen both Forza 4 and Burnout demos for Kinect. Star Wars Kinect is coming soon (jedi simulation). FPS games work on the Wii, why not Kinect?

As for your comment on compromised "sweet graphics", i've not seen one piece of evidence or seen any footage to back up that claim.

You really havent taken the time to research information regarding Kinect. As usual, your posts are constructed purely from your uneducated opinions. Sometimes its hard to remember you're Canadian.

ive said this before but can you imagine GTA through Kinect. what would you have to do when you pick up a hooker lol

i have no doubt that it is awesome but i dont agree with the statement that it will render the controlller obsolete.

I would like to see the video of the guy playing in that star wars vid. Do you honestly think people are going to want to do intense physical activity for hours on end to play a video game? Because I don't. Could you imagine a game like online COD using Kinect? I can't. Could you imagine playing a game like Mass Effect or Dragon Age Origins using Kinect? I can't. Could you imagine playing a wrestling game using Kinect? I can't. The only way I could see it happening is if they dumbed those games down to the extreme, which would kill the fun of them.

I'm not saying Kinect is un cool, but I don't see it being the controller killer. Just like how the Wii wasn't the typical console killer.

I agree, Funk, but if they prove you wrong and CAN provide accurate performance for those kind things and people DO enjoy it, it's gonna be fucking epic.

I just thought of something. You know how the computer industry is starting to shift away from physical media, like CDs and all? What if console gaming was the same way? PC gaming is already headed towards digital media, where you just download the game and own it. Some old Xbox games are downloadable. But what if everything was digital...new games, you bought them ahead of time and when the clock struck midnight, your download automatically started. Everyone got the game at the same time that way, no six hour delay because you're in Europe or some shit.

Just a thought. I was reminded of this idea and then of Apple starting to move away from installing optical drives on the new MB Airs. They do this because they think we're moving away from CDs and on to downloading programs. These kind of innovations sound stupid at first, but over time they just gradually take over and become the shit and people embrace them. Like the iPad? People laughed at that and how it would be a flop. Today, everyone is trying to play catch-up with Apple in the tablet sector.

Similarly, people laughed at the Wii, saying motion control was dumb and this and that. Look at it now. PS3 and Xbox are following in the Wii's shadow. And although it is slightly different, people still thought the idea of motion sensors in gaming was a bit stupid, at least the way Nintendo did it with the Wii.

So what I'm trying to say is give this thing time. Not so that more games are out, but so that any wrinkles are ironed out, such as bugs or the sensor not being as sensitive or accurate. I think it might be the future of gaming, no matter how stupid it sounds now. Because at one point, I too thought the Wii was shitty and that tablets were pointless. I've hacked my sister's Wii and have played most of the quality games on it and love it. And for the tablet, when they're cheaper but not shitty, I'll buy one of those too when the iPad 2 sets the benchmark for tablets in March.

I guess you just gotta experience it first, which I have not, to like the Kinect.

I think this sounds fun and I think it's a good idea. But personally, I don't see the use for it at this time. I think it would be awesome in a party setting but I, like Da Funk, see gaming as relaxation and effortless. I want to lounge back with a beer and enjoy myself after a long day. I don't want to work up a sweat. But yeah, I'm open to the idea of getting it in the future.

You don't necessarily have to be standing up to use Kinect, it's just that's how it's been implemented in the current line-up of games that are out. There was a video demo of a family playing a quiz game where you had to "hit" the buzzer in front of you and then state the answer, for example. That's not exactly something that requires effort.

But that's also uber lame haha.

I'm sure a Kinect game in which you climbed trees and picked fruit would be entertaining to play but soon you'd realize you're picking fruit and climbing trees virtually. It's kinda like Farmville. I came to the US for a better life. If I wanted to water plants or shake plum trees, I would have stayed back.

Well yeah, but my underlying point was just that there are potentially many different ways of utilizing this new hardware, a lot of which haven't even been considered yet by the developers. It'll be at least a year before it's getting used to it's full potential.
