I agree, Funk, but if they prove you wrong and CAN provide accurate performance for those kind things and people DO enjoy it, it's gonna be fucking epic.
I just thought of something. You know how the computer industry is starting to shift away from physical media, like CDs and all? What if console gaming was the same way? PC gaming is already headed towards digital media, where you just download the game and own it. Some old Xbox games are downloadable. But what if everything was digital...new games, you bought them ahead of time and when the clock struck midnight, your download automatically started. Everyone got the game at the same time that way, no six hour delay because you're in Europe or some shit.
Just a thought. I was reminded of this idea and then of Apple starting to move away from installing optical drives on the new MB Airs. They do this because they think we're moving away from CDs and on to downloading programs. These kind of innovations sound stupid at first, but over time they just gradually take over and become the shit and people embrace them. Like the iPad? People laughed at that and how it would be a flop. Today, everyone is trying to play catch-up with Apple in the tablet sector.
Similarly, people laughed at the Wii, saying motion control was dumb and this and that. Look at it now. PS3 and Xbox are following in the Wii's shadow. And although it is slightly different, people still thought the idea of motion sensors in gaming was a bit stupid, at least the way Nintendo did it with the Wii.
So what I'm trying to say is give this thing time. Not so that more games are out, but so that any wrinkles are ironed out, such as bugs or the sensor not being as sensitive or accurate. I think it might be the future of gaming, no matter how stupid it sounds now. Because at one point, I too thought the Wii was shitty and that tablets were pointless. I've hacked my sister's Wii and have played most of the quality games on it and love it. And for the tablet, when they're cheaper but not shitty, I'll buy one of those too when the iPad 2 sets the benchmark for tablets in March.
I guess you just gotta experience it first, which I have not, to like the Kinect.
