God Exists...

Is there any reason to believe in the character called “God” or “Jesus” or “Allah” found in the Bible or Quran? No. No evidence, no sense, and critical evidence to the contrary. And those three names are not synonymous with the word "Creator." They refer to specific characters in specific works.

Is there any reason to believe that how everything came to be is pretty mysterious and in need of some answers that we presently don’t have? Yes.

The trouble is that most people answer that mystery by using the names of any of those three characters, and then think they’ve answered anything. Whereas we non-religious look to the progress of science or rational argument for possible answers. The religious would rather have a wrong answer than the hope of a finding a right one. Why? Because they’ve bought into their upbringing and they need and want a crutch now. Plus they’re not that familiar with science or rational thought to look to them for answers. But the non-religious are not looking for a crutch. They just have intellectual curiosity about it, and those three characters don’t do a thing to satisfy that curiosity. They only satisfy a need for an emotional crutch. And if you were brought up in the ancient Greek culture, the name of your crutch would have been Zeus. And so on. So today’s religious people have simply put their faith in one ancient product of ignorance and derangement over all the others that have been. And that’s merely due to the vagaries of history.

i read a book onetime that had an interesting concept of god, it stated that whoever wrote the bible was looking for ways to control people through their inner most deepest fears, and the conclusion was that man fears a dog more than people (dog spelled backwards = god) and a twisted ideology ensued

Yes, Jesus Christ is a historical figure. I don't know about others.
It's just uncertain whether he did everything that was described in the Bible but it's documented better than most other "historical facts" that we do consider as facts and that's it ;)

Looking at it the other way around it's silly how fast people are to ignore things that seem "unreasonable" and how they believe in anything else that was said to happen that seems more probable.
Personally I don't really believe in history in the first place. It's like taking one puzzle, creating a whole image based on it and telling people that this is how it was. I mean - even things that happened 10 years ago are now described way different than they really were. I don't believe that stories about what happened a few thousand years ago are accurate. Definitely some of them are sort of close to reality because there's more evidence than with others but still that's too far for me to believe in the complete picture they're trying to present.

To me the Bible is not more "fake" than a history book about ancient times.

^And about creating religions to control people - make them obey that's a very popular theory.

/\ But there was neither logic or an argument in what you posted.

Anyone searching for a logical argument to the proof of god is wasting their time because there isn't one. Faith is completely illogical and irrational.

And if you take away that ridiculous layer of what people consider to be "sacred" - ie you're supposed to tread lightly to avoid offending religious folk, then all that remains is stupidity and ignorance.

Let's all ignore scientific facts and choose to believe in fairy stories instead.
Dude, God exists because he woke me up this morning and started me on my way. I am blessed with a job, good health and a roof over my head because of God. My God blessed me with two healthy dogs that love me. GOD does all and through God all things are possible. God is the reason I am blessed with intelligence and the internet to write this post. God blessed me with the skills needed to get a nuke in MW2 last night and God is the reason porn no longer crashes my notebook. PRAISE GOD.

That's the thing though, how very easy is it to to say God is the reason for anything? And if things that you do well, things that happen every day in life, anything and everything can be the "will of God" if that is your proof and your idea of "facts".. i mean, how can you combat that? You can't. Everyone else will always be wrong.

I know not all religious people are like this. I know some VERY intelligent people who support their respective religion and believe in god.. I'm just talking about the nut jobs.

I read it as a joke.

I have not heard about the dog spelled backwards part. But it is my belief that religion was born out of the idea he presented. Someone stumbled over a way to manipulate people into believing you if you just acted very well. Imagine people that talk in tongues. Imagine faking that and saying God possessed you. 2000 years ago, who wouldn't believe you? So then they realized that they could use that to control people, and that's how religion was born.

Religion was one of the first attempts to explain the world around us, not as a way to control people, although its power to do so is undeniable. So if you think about it religion can be taken as one of mans first attempts at science.

You watch porn... on your notebook? So you like to have porn handy with you?

*purrs*
Yes. It makes me better at videogames. 15 minutes of porn and I'm unstoppable on MW2 or any FPS game. Sometimes I play at friend's houses... so I need to have quick access to youporn. Most people don't appreciate you looking at porn on their home computer. I found this out the hard way. Who knew?

Indeed. A poor attempt at that.
