Portugal vs Coté d'Ivoire.... what an absolutely beauty of a game this will be. Potential to be one of the highest scoring games @ this world cup. Let's go Portugal! Vamos Portugal! Viva a Selecção das Quinas! Forca Portugal!

Portugal vs Brasil on 25th June will be the game of the tournament!
nacao valente e imortal?

should be a cracker on paper, aye. i hope ivory coast wont fuck shit up.

Today was mediocre. Dutch put in a decent game against a very stubborn danish side. Kuijt was his usual self. He's heavily criticized, but I'm a fan. Persie was rubbish today (forgot his vitamins this morning or something?).

I like it, though. Decent performance, nothing stellar. 2-0, three points, no injuries, no big fuss. Not even a horrible match to watch. On to the next, Japan. A rubbish 2-0 will do imo.

Japan - Cameroon was surprising but a poor match. Cameroon was truly awful.

Paraguay - Italy i only saw half, but i dont have the impression i missed much.

_carmi

me, myself & us
See, this is why I like Carmi lol. I agree, Di Natale would have been a good choice to start with. What about Quagliarella? Another good choice, and he came off a good season. Lippi is senile.
This is Lippi's last cup. He better make it fucking right. He helped us get the WC 4 years ago, he can't be that horrible... right?
This world cup is proving to be very lackluster. Huge letdown for me. I blame the ball..no player seems to be able to keep the ball down.. It's flying all over the place.. These are world class strikers. And those fucking horns! Get rid of that shit. The fuck is going on with FIFA?
Don't get me started on those horns. Apparently they can't ban them because they are part of the African culture. Those horns are interfering with the game. That's it and that's all. They should put it in the FIFA laws no fucking horns of any type.

Anyone remember Marcelo Salas? Damn he was the shit, great goal scoring record at both club and country level. I used to always buy him on FIFA too .

^^they arent part of African culture.

and Lippi doesnt deserve all the stick he seems to be getting but i would be critical of his decision to leave out Cassano.

anyway, Italy drew with the USA 4 years ago who ended with 9 men so i wouldnt get too bothered over a draw against Paraguay. they are a good side. they beat Brazil and Argentina in the qualifiers

but i cant see Italy winning the World Cup. lets be honest here, no team has ever won back to back World Cups and alot of the Italian team are too old now. They havent really blooded any new top class players since that last world cup either.

Did you guys know that they're now giving out earplugs for the Vuvuzelas? They're being mass produced, almost like collectors for the World Cup. lol.

You stay classy FIFA...

Everyone's talking about the vuvuzela's but tbh, i dont really mind them that much. Yeah, it's annoying but once in the game im watching the game or listening to the commentary. Also, when I'm watching alone I usually have some music on in the background.

he never really fulfilled his potential imo
Yea he didn't really shine when he moved to Juve but during the 90's and when he was at Lazio he was quite prolific. He finished his career with an average of one goal in every two games which is quite respectable over a 15 year period.

Well my whole issue is not hearing the other fans chanting. It's the World Cup in Africa, not the African World Cup. The mix and diversity of fans is part of what makes the World Cup the greatest event in the world, so taking that out does take out a bit from the event...

yea he was good at Lazio but i remember the hype around him when first started playing for CHile. I think he scored a good goal against England in a friendly and then had a choice of going to Man Utd or Lazio. he never quite lived up to the hype. he started getting injured alot at Juventus though

Zamarano was an excellent player as well

Yea, same I actually don't mind them. Did anyone see that incident today in the Netherland game where RVP was flagged offside but carried on playing, the ref ran over as if to book him but RVP pointed at his ears and then the crowd as if to say he couldn't hear the refs whistle.

I read an article yesterday that said a move to ban the vuvuzelas had been discussed for extreme circumstances if they become problematic.

I actually like that the WC is in Africa, demographically speaking. Africans are least likely to be able to afford a long trip and skyhigh ticket prices. So yeah, cool, Africa.

But this tourney in SA brings with it a whole host of problems, an important one being security.

It's not like i begrudge the South Africans for it, but the decision where to host the tournament should never ever be at the expense of the tourney, in any way.

Blatter needs to die. I mean this. I want him to die.

No, I agree. I think it's freaking awesome that it's in Africa, and that the people can have a taste of the WC, which for the most part, especially in South Africa... they've been excluded from in the past, among other thing. Blatter is just making this his little political game, and I want to punch him in the face.

Why is it everytime Ireland, Scotland or England lose a game of football their fans automatically think the other team has cheated?

Besides the Ireland/France incident where the French did cheat I'd be hard pressed to find any other incidents. When it comes down to it, these 3 nations just aren't mentally tough enough in the big tournaments. Neither are Portugal, Spain or Holland.

Screw who the players are or how much talent is in the sides. It comes down to how mentally prepared you are individually and as a team. I'm getting sick of England losing a game then blaming everyone else but themselves.

Were England robbed in Euro 2000? Or Euro 2004? Were they robbed by Brazil in the WC2002? Or by Portugal in 2006? Were they robbed by Croatia in qualifying for Euro 2008?

England lose because like many other nations they are not mentally tough enough in these tournaments. They don't play for percentages and they don't play for the win early on. They are happy with the draw. They don't control the ball and in the end too many ego's collide. No matter who is coach/manager. It's the same story every World Cup and Euro Cup. They play shit when it matters then blame everyone else and say they were robbed and cheated.

Get over yourselves and just play some goddamn football.

If the Portuguese are cheats then the English/Irish are teams who constantly murder their own chances. And that is worse.

New Zealand 0 - 2 Slovakia

Will be interested to finally see Hamsik in action.

Portugal 3 - 2 Ivory Coast

Cracking match on paper, I hope practice will follow theory.

Brazil - North Korea, lol....well, place your bets. I'm going modest and I'll put it on a 3-0, without Brazil being utterly convincing.

We Dutch often joke that if we had only 10% of the German mentality we would've been world champions at least twice.

This ball is full of shit though, I haven't seen 1 on target free-kick, ball flying off to the moon on what looks like not even strong shots.
It kind of like when someone is playing a FIFA or PES for the first time. They keep blasting the ball over the goal as they haven't got a hang of the controls. In addition, one Cameroon player did give it a good whallop only for it to crack off the top bar. If that went in, we would have seen what this ball could potentially do. I'm still waiting for that classy free kick to go in.

What's with all the open seats? It looks half full... I know the games are in South Africa, and it's not the easiest thing to head down there financially, but damn. It seems like most of the matches have not been sold out, in comparaison to past events where practically every game was sold out.
One thing for sure is that most people were at work. The other thing you have already pointed out is the spending power of Africans. There is a mad passion for football this way but, spending to watch a game is a whole different story. They had ticket prices for South Africans, then ticket prices for the rest of Africa (and the world I hope). The prices have been restrictive but you'll notice the last match of the day, and weekend matches will have a higher attendance. The first two matches will normally have a number of charity organizations and local schools in attendance as part of the other crowd.

yea but i think the countries involved only have an allocation of 3000 tickets per team for each game. eveything else goes to the locals who probably cant afford the tickets because they are expensive.
Agreed.

Yeah, especially for the "lesser" matches theres not that much interst. Lots of empty places in the stadiums.
Talking of "lesser" matches I'm interested in seeing the attendance for the New Zealand/Slovakia game. What surprised me the most was that even during the opening match, there were empty seats. I mean, this is the home team and the largest stadium. Fill it up and get behind your team no matter what the cost is. A better number of South Africans can at least afford to watch 1 match at the stadium.

Apparently they can't ban them because they are part of the African culture.
South African culture my dear. Some Africans are truly surprised by the noise those things make. Finally our women have some competition in the noise making field :D

Did anyone see that incident today in the Netherland game where RVP was flagged offside but carried on playing, the ref ran over as if to book him but RVP pointed at his ears and then the crowd as if to say he couldn't hear the refs whistle.
I saw that but, I was thinking he'd say anything to get away from that Yellow card. He was out of sorts during that game. My guess was he had to see if he had what it takes to get the ball in the back of the net.

I really like the fact that it's in Africa. It was always one of those things we grew up thinking would never happen. For most Africans, even if your national team isn't in the tournament, you root for whichever African team is playing. Which explains a lot of gloominess after the Cameroon game. The security has really been beefed up by SA, a lot more than they have been given credit for. Unfortunately, most of the cases of crime being reported are because people are hanging out at the wrong places. Why leave money in your Hotel Room when you know you wouldn't do that anywhere else in the World? There was a lot of politics after it was announced that the tournament would come to Africa. A lot of people were pissed when the continental rotation was announced by FIFA. They did rescind it anyway. Safe to say, it won't come back to Africa again. SA is a lovely country and I think whoever has the opportunity to visit it should take it.

Blatter is just making this his little political game, and I want to punch him in the face.
Punch him for me as well. Mostly coz of how he screwed the people who spent millions perfecting goal-line technology.

I can't lie I barely even notice the horns cus I pay attention to the game...it's like white noise or something, barely notice it
Eventually, the vuvuzelas get filtered out the more games you watch.
