I'd say Messi is the CURRENT best player in the world. Obviously the kid is 22, he still has a long way to go and much to prove.

Pele can be a bit fruity sometimes.

Yeah, he talks a lot of shit at times. I won't take anything away from him, his goalscoring records speaks for itself... but then again, he stayed in the Brazilian league, and only moved to the NY Cosmos ...

That's why I always put Maradona > Pele. He at least challenged himself in different leagues and clubs and showed no matter what club, he would make it a winning team.

^ Agreed. I'd rate Cruijff and Maradona joint highest after all. Pele was obviously immense but never ventured outside of Brazil.

Pele was amazing though. what he did in the WCs was unreal. Its Maradona for me though. just an amazing player.

Van Basten's career was probably too short for him to be consider among the very best but he was an amazing player. Holland might have won the WC in 94 if he wasnt injured.

Agreed. Cruijff was just Godly on the ball. I like you would put him joint 1st place also.

Van Basten was what 28 when he retired? What a shame, although he was already playing for one of the best clubs in the world at the time, had he moved somewhere else he would have probably been epic there also. Natural talent.

he achieved alot in his career all the same.3 scudettos, 2 European Cups i think. A European Championships and world player of the year awards. shame he had to retire so early though. That goal v USSR in the Euro 88 final was out of his world. I remember he scored 4 goals in one Champions League match one night back in 1992 i think. It was the first time i ever saw a bicycle kick. I didnt know what it was called until my father told me lol

I hate that bastard Basile Boli for injuring him the 1993 final. he scored the winning goal as well. i cried after that match lol. remember it like it was yesterday.

I read an interview with Boli in Four Four Two a couple of years ago and he was boasting about taking Van Basten out in that match and ending his career. cunt of a man.

That Bicycle kick was just sublime. I know the IFK Goteborg keeper gets a hand on it but he got a lot of power into it and it hit the ground hard. That keeper was pretty good as well. Thomas Ravelli was his name.

he was awesome though. Look at what he did at those WCs. Football was different back then. Brazilians tended to stay in their own league. Brazilian league would have been very strong back then. Argentina likewise. Pele won two intercontinental cups with Santos so thats an indication of how good they were. that Santos team were pretty amazing.

If Pele was playing today he would have been just as great.

I do actually agree. Santos would also play European sides a lot and Pele would rip them apart.

He's French... What did you expect?

This is not racist, but the French have a special approach to sports.

I talked about the Henry incident to a couple of french footballer friends... They all said that indeed it was not right what he did, but in no way should he have told the ref that it was a hand. If he did that, he would have been lynched by his teammates, his coach and the fans.

The French are the dirtiest players on this planet. At least the Turks are not subtle and when they punch an opposing player in the mouth. lol

Why would he tell the ref? :wondering: I don't think any player in that situation would tell the ref either. Fuck it I wouldve caught the ball and spun it on my finger then rolled it in and claim I headed it.

Its not so much that he didnt tell the ref either. Its the way he carried on after the match. fucking prick.

the linesman should have seen it, thats the bottom line. He probably did see it though. They were paid a visit when France didnt look like winning.
