Really poor performance by Germany.

We didnt really allow Argentina many chances but throughout the whole game we werent able to get into good positions to score.

Can anyone name me one team, national or club, that played with only one striker and was successful doing it? I cant think of any team. We did it yesterday and it was horrible.

^^Liverpool play with one stiker and have done so for a while. ok, i know he said successful :) but we did well last season with it.

Barcelona almost always play with one striker as well. Chelsea do sometimes. Arsenal do it.

Actually alot of teams play with a single striker nowadays.

what formation did Germany line up with though?

edit-just saw it now. the formation was a 4-2-3-1

Klose up front on his own with Podolski and Muller playing out wide i presume? Ozul playing behind the striker. and Ballack alongside Schweinsteiger in central midfield. was Schweinsteiger playing that position? Its actually very similar to what Liverpool play.

We played without a striker for 2 months lol.. It worked sometimes but against strong teams we got embarrased :(

He's a good player, with a good shot. I've seen some of his goals at Mainz back when. He's known for having a shit attitude at times. He recently had some issue with the Egyptian NT in the Cup of Nations where he picked up a small injury and he refused to keep getting treatment for it cause he didn't feel like it. lol.

These Egyptian players I tell you, they all have some kind of chip on their shoulder. lol

They do. SWP, Young, Rooney & J.Cole are creativie and have alot of technical ability...

I think Capello should keep Gerrard in the central cole and drop Lampard to the bench. He should have A.Young & SWP on the flanks with Rooney uptop with another striker than can hold the ball up well like Crouch, D Bent or C.Cole

This would be the team I would pick

---------Green
Johnson Ferdinand Terry Cole
---------Barry
SWP-----Gerrard-------A.Young
------Rooney Crouch/Cole/Bent
I dont rate SWP that highly. He is just about speed as well imo. Young can be a good player but is a little bit lightweight. Young is probably the more creative of the two. He can occassionally spot a pass. SWP not so much. Gerrard and Rooney are the only really creative players they have and they have little or no creativity in midfield. I agree with Cole as well but not sure if he will make it. He will be a loss if he doesnt.

Their arrogance is the sole reason they always fall short of World Cup qualification.. they can keep their African Nations Cup.. I'm sure Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Cameroon and other African power houses are more concerned with the WC anyways.

If Maradona picks Samuel, Zanetti and Milito is his squad they will have a pretty solid defence. and also Cambiasso in midfield. surely he will pick these players?

Paraguay International Salvador Cabanas Back On The Pitch

Cabanas even managed to find the back of the net...

By Tim Sturtridge

Salvador Cabañas was in fine form when he greeted a delegation from the Paraguayan Football Association which included his international head coach Gerardo Martino.

The meeting took place in Mexico at the clinic where Cabañas continues to receive treatment for his near fatal shooting at the beginning of the year.
After fighting for his life, Cabañas insists he is now totally focused on playing for Paraguay again, all this just two months after being shot in the head. The recovery of the footballer has amazed the doctors who have treated him.

In the garden of the Mexican clinic, Cabañas and Martino took turns trying to score against Paraguayan physio Celso Fretes in an improvised goal. The striker’s aim and power surprised Paraguayan FA director Horacio Cartes.

“He shot very accurately. I’m amazed by his state of recovery.”
At the conclusion of the meeting, Cabañas told Martino not to forget about him when he comes to drawing up his Paraguay squad for South Africa later this year.

Cabañas left hospital in Mexico City two weeks ago and made a television appearance in which he said he would play again soon. The bullet with which he was shot remains lodged in his head however and doctors have warned him that playing competitive football would be very dangerous for him.
nice to see. didnt realise the bullet was still lodged in his head though.

^^ LMAO. I'd buy a TV from Toshiba, just cause that's great on itself.

In other news... Pele speaks on Messi.

Messi must score 1,000 goals first

World Cup legend Pele claims that all talk of Lionel Messi being the greatest player in the world must stop until the Argentine scores his 1000th career goal.

Pele is regarded as the best striker to have played the game, but is tired of seeing comparisons with his career and told the Daily Mail that Messi must first be viewed as the best player from his own country, ahead of Diego Maradona.

"They are always trying to compare someone to Pele," he said. "I always joke with my Argentine friends that they must first choose who is the best player from Argentina.

"Then, when one of them scores a thousand goals, then we can start talking."

However, the three-time World Cup winner did lavish praise upon the current FIFA World Player of the Year.

"Messi did not win the World Player award [in 2007], but I remember that I said to him, 'you'll be the next'," he said. "It took a little longer, but he eventually won. He's a great player.

"He plays very well for Barcelona, but has failed to show his talent with the Argentina team. Maybe he can at the World Cup. Let's wait and see.''
