Damn, my prediction didn't stand. Was close... The Bafana Bafana should have put it away though with that post... Still, good start, now they'll have a close eye on the next match.

S.A were unlucky to hit the post in the last minute. So close to a win and a good start to the tournament for them. The first half wasn't great for them as Mexico seemed in control of the game. 2nd half was definitely much better to watch. Cracker of a goal by Tshabala.

As for the vuvuzela (trumpet), it's one of the most annoying things if you aren't from S.A. I heard them the first time I was there and I hated them. I really hoped they would be banned from the World Cup and it was even considered before the tournament started. However, FIFA didn't ban them being the idiots they are. The irony behind the vuvuzela is that you are supposed to 'blow your opponent away'. Which explains why they last the whole game. Unfortunately you'll just have to bear with them for the whole tournament. Eventually, you probably won't notice them as much as you do now.

I guess a draw was in the best interests of S.A and Mexico. Can't say the tournament has provided much on its first day. We're all looking forward to tomorrow's games now.

I predicted the right scores to Duke last night :D

Anyway, first game was good, Mexico play good football but they leave so many gaps at the back. Hernandez should start!

Onto France, Gourcuff needs to play more advanced, he had a bad season last season; looks like his bad form is still there. However the tactics France deploy are weird. I would've started Anelka and Gignac with Toulalon, Maloulda, Ribery and Gourcuff in midfield. Although Abou Diaby was decent.

uruguay will be the happier team going away with the draw. sagna was lucky not to have his world cup ended early.

i expected better from mexico today, they started really brightly, but SA were on top towards the end of the first half and pretty much most of the second half. a good battling performance from both sides, more so South Africa.

Bobby, you've never been more right. I was thinking about your comments before and during the game because i knew the noise would be going on from start to finish. it does spoil the otherwise would be great atmosphere, but it is better to have some noise rather than no noise (i.e. like MLS games when all they do is clap and say "yayy" when their team scores). but they need to sort it out seriously, they should restrict it to african teams, or just south africa and let other nations create the atmosphere as they wish.
