Paraguayan international Salvador Cabanas will remain sedated because of a cerebral edema (an accumulation of fluid) that continues to grow after the player was shot in the head in Mexico City.

The doctor tending to the Club America player, Ernesto Martinez, expressed his hope that the complication would not worsen.

"We hope that this edema does not progress further. Now 48 hours after the injury, we continue to wait for an improvement, but his situation is still grave and the risks to his life remain," he said, according to Goal.com Latin America.

Cabanas was shot in the head inside the "Bar Bar" night club in Mexico City on the morning of January 25th. There is no known reason for the attack, but the player was reportedly conscious on the way to the hospital.

Cabanas received medical attention during the early hours of the morning and was supposed to undergo a craniotomy later in the day. However, doctors decided that it was too risky to proceed and the bullet was not extracted. He remains in critical but stable condition.
damn. really hope he can pull through.

^^I thought this was a tournament for the underdogs?

Amazing result for Ghana. On the other hand, Nigeria didn't make the most of their chances.

My friend noted something earlier today and I can't help but agree. We pick the North African team for one thing the African sides usually don't have: discipline

^^my brother said the exact same thing during the Algeria v Ivory Coast. The northern African teams seem to have far more bottle than the rest. However, the western African teams like Ghana, Ivory Coast,Cameroon, NIgeria do tend to do much better when they play at the World Cup. Maybe its because they are more physical?

Salvador Cabanas looks to be well on the road to recovery, after he woke up and conversed with relatives at the hospital.

Ernesto Martinez, the doctor in charge of him, said that he was no longer under sedation, and that Cabanas was even able to move part of his body, referring to the progress as a "miracle". He added that the edema has not disappeared, but has diminished in size.

Elaborating on the situation, Martinez said that it was important for Cabanas to remain conscious, to avoid any further complications. He has been removed from the respirator, and will be able to leave intensive therapy soon if he continues this progress. Cabanas was already able to move some parts of his body on the right hand side.

Finally, Martinez stated that 80% of those who get shot in the skull die, confirming that Cabanas should be able to leave intensive therapy within three days to a week.
i wonder if they removed the bullet?

Good to hear he's on his way to recovery.

Weird ass last sentence though:

"Finally, Martinez stated that 80% of those who get shot in the skull die, confirming that Cabanas should be able to leave intensive therapy within three days to a week."

Egypt wins 0-1 in the 85th.

Total borefest. I counted exactly three good passes this entire Africa Cup.

And to top it off, the organisation ridicules themselves by banning Togo for 2 editions and creating a worldwide "wtf" moment.

I mean, srsly. Can't we just...ban Africa or something? From existing?
