Who will be new Newcastle manager?

How can you argue that four defenders who are about to embark on their first ever World Cup are unproven? They've yet to forge a reputation on a European or International level, it's as simple as that. They did a good job in the qualifiers, but that doesn't prove they can compete against top-quality opposition.

It's not a "God given right", but it's expected. England is the home of football and has arguably the best league in the world. It's not arrogant to assume we can produce a team capable of qualifying for the World Cup.

Why don't you think England is capable of winning the World Cup? If you genuinely deny that the likes of Ashley Cole, John Terry, Rio Ferdinand, Frank Lampard, Stevie Gerrard, David Beckham, Michael Owen and Wayne Rooney are World Class then you're simply blinded by your hatred of the English.

It might not be easy for them, but you're dreaming if you think you'll qualify. I'd like to see it happen; I always like to see the underdogs do well, but you're in a group with two potential tournament winners.

It would be a tough game for anyone. That said, remind me what the score was the last time England played Argentina? It was a classic, and we won.

And if you want to talk about Jonathan Woodgate being a racist, why don't we talk about Mihajlovic calling Patrick Vieira a "nigger"?
I guess that you will stay with our oppinion that England have the best defence on the planet. I will stay by mine that Serbia is the one that carry that name. So, we must wait until World Cup to see who's right and who's wrong.
Man, I love Premier league. Every week I see all four games that I can see here on TV. Plus, I always see reports from all the matches. I watch your teams in Euro cups. I'm reading newspapers, sport magazines and informations on internet abot the games, clubs, their transfers, history... I'm a big fan of your leagues. Not just Premier. I'm following others too. Sometimes, even Conference. But I doubt that Premier league is the best on the world. Contrary to many people my wote will go to Spain (not to Calcio or Premier). There are many reasons why baut I don't have time to explain them. I'll say that your league is the best organized on the world.
Last time when England had real chance to win the troophy was back in 1996. To be honest, my favourite teams on that competition were Scotland and England. Alan Shearer and Paul Gascoigne were on the highest points of their career then. I still posses cassete with all Shearer's goals from that period. He was the main reason why I supported Blackburn and why I started to like Newcastle so much.
I'm not 'blinded by my hatred of the English' because of my oppinion that England is not capable of winning the trophy. Chill out man. I have many friends in England. Some of them are my friends for life. Then, how can I hate English?
Yes, we have really bad group but we will fight unitl the last minute. Our opponents will do the same. So, let the two best teams go further. It will be interesting too see matches in our group. We have several good reasons to beat the Holland. I'll enjoy watching my compatriots doing that.
I don't want to waste my word on Mihajlovic but since you mention him I feel that I must say something. First of all, I never liked him. Even when he was young, and he was far better player then in time you know about him, he was hypocrite. Then he went to Italy and started building his career while our contry was in war. After he made name by himself in Calcio he begun to think that he is some kind of a big star. Not long after, he went to Lazio, the team that I almoust hate the most on the planet. Their fans are racist and glorify Mussolini and... Everybody knows that. He made that incident because his enviroment was poisoned. But, on my personal oppinion it was his real face. I won't go so far to claim that he is still a racist since he apologized few times and some black players are still really good with him. But, what you didn't read in western newspapers that Viera first called him 'dirty gipsy' and Mihajlovic took that as a offense. If I were on Mihajlovic's place at the moment I'll brake all Viera's teeths for that.
A lots of people from western contries call us and some our neighbours 'dirty gypsies' or 'Balkanians'. Such offense is almoust the same to us as for black people if someone call them... Politicans and journalists talks nothing but lies all the time about us. (media propaganda) If you have a chance try to find out what really Serbia is. We are one of the most frendly and most hospitality countries on the planet. And I still love the way how Viera plays and I still have nothing good to say for Mihajlovic. Sorry everybody for such a long post.

That nonsense about Asley Cole is the weirdest thing that I heard in a very, very long time. Wake up man. Do you think that Cole can stand vs. Zambrotta for example?
Yes, and so does anyone who's seen him play. Including Real Madrid who want to replace Carlos with him.

BTW tonight I watched some of the players that we are debating over here and Vidic made very possitive impression on me, although I'm not his fan (in case that somebody thinks that I am). In some parts of a game against Portsmouth his moves were risky but all gone well. I can say almoust the same for the Rio...
Vidic had his first good full game for United. I like him.

Rooney is still going through some hard times. He didn't score recently.
He's saving his goals for the World Cup.

But the star of a day was Brown. He made me laugh several times. Lualua made him look stupid. Wes doesn't know how to move without ball. Nice work for some who will be part of 'unstoppable England' this summer. Peace.
Wes Brown won't be part of England's starting XI in the World Cup, and I don't imagine he'll be playing right back for England either. He played there for United today because Neville was out injured.

That said, Wes Brown had a good game. He made some very timely clearances and interceptions. United were solid at the back. Lua Lua had a very good game (he's a very good player) especially considering the circumstances.

I understand that Real Madrid is very popular in England since signing Beckham. Owen and Woodgate followed. Now Cole is on his way to Madrid. Real, indeed, is the most famous team on the planet. A lot of Serbs played for Real too. But, if Real wants Cole, it doesn't mean that Cole is the best player on that position in the world. He made impression on me first time I saw his in Arsenal. I was tired of Dixon n Winterbourn. I respect his qualities but I think he must improve his game if he wants to be 'the best left back in the world'.
If Rooney is saving his goals for the World Cup then England has no need to worry.:) Btw what are you think about Barton's status? It would be a shame if he doesn't play in Germany. Yesterday, I saw his latest perfomance against Charlton and it was amazing. And what about Hargreaves? What will be his role in England's team since he's always changing his position in Bayern?
Be on lookout for Koroman's debut for Portsmouth next weekend. Liverpool and Benfica wanted him but he fooled himself. Hope, he'll make impression in this short time in England. He played for reserve team and played very well.

Newcastle are reported to be ready to open talks with former Bayern Munich chief Ottmar Hitzfeld about the vacant managerial position at St James' Park.

Speculation is circulating that Hitzfeld is travelling to Tyneside on Monday to open discussions with Newcastle officials.

The Magpies are believed to have approached Hitzfeld about possibly replacing Graeme Souness at Newcastle.

Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd is determined to bring in the right man to change their fortunes and insists he will leave no stone unturned to find the best candidate.

Glenn Roeder is currently in caretaker charge at Newcastle, and even though he has guided them to two successive wins, he is adamant he is not interested in the post full-time.

Hitzfeld is thought to be keen on a return to management after 18 months on the sidelines.

The 57-year-old is one of the most respected managers in European football after winning the UEFA Champions League with both Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich.

Martin O'Neill, Sam Allardyce and Guus Hiddink have all been mentioned as possible successors to Souness and Shepherd is hoping to make an appointment in the near future.

To Troublesome's last post..

Out of interest, who do you rate as the best left back in the world? IMO only Zambrotta would come close to Ashley Cole.

I hope Hargreaves isn't in Germany at the World Cup (at least not with the England squad, he's very average and seems to be riding the fact he's versatile and plays in another country, somewhat of a novelty for us English. He shouldn't be let near an England shirt. Do you rate him? I'd be interested to know some bayern fans opinions too cos i really don't rate him.

Barton is a much better bet that OH. More dynamic and a better all round player (i.e he can actually pass forward). Think it's come a season too early for him though and can't see him ousting any of the current squad unless he's keeps up his form to the very end of the season.

I'm one of the few Manchester United fans that would have quite liked to see him join us in January. I like him, but with the likes of Gerrardm King, Carrick and Parker competing for a place, it's not going to be easy for him to break into the team.

Ashley is very good, but I think that Gianluca Zambrotta and Dario Srna are better than him. Maybe Cole will left them behind after this World Cup considering how defensive Italians play. As for the Croat, he still isn't a big name so he can hardly stand vs. other two but his play is very powerful.
I agree with your oppinion about Hargreaves. Completly. Barton is very talented player but I'm not sure how constant his form will be unitl the World Cup. If I were Eriksson I'll certainly keep Barton on the bench and give him more and more chance. Some of the stars from the first XI will need a rest and he'll be a perfect substitute.

Move from City to United? That would be a doubtful move, almoust betray. Personally, I like more City. Barton have problems with signing a new contract. Maybe, Ferguson could seize that. Anyway, hope to see hima in English team. He's improving himself. He deserved a chance.

It was speculated that Alex Ferguson would try to buy him in January. Middlesboro tried and Man City turned down the bid.

I don't think too many Man Utd fans would have been happy with it, since he's a Manchester City player and a Scouser.

If he finish in Liverpool then United will have more problems. He, Gerrard, Alonso and Kewell will be dnagerous four. Anyway. Manchester needs at least one really good midfielder. I heard they wanted Gattuso but Milan didn't even agree to negotiate about that. Gattuso already played on the island, in Glasgow Rangers but I think that this will be really bad decission to have such player in your squad. Btw, do you know who Duljaj is? He's defensive midfielder. He's in Serbian national team and also plays for Shaktar. I'm not saying this only beacause he's Serbian. He's very very powerful player. Three years ago Zidane said that his hardest game that year was against Partizan (finished 0-0). Duljaj was his opponent back then. Few years ago Juve wanted him but his former club Partizan didn't want to sell him. He'll be the perfect player for United but I'm pretty sure that something like that will never happened. Only if Ferguson started to like so much Serbian players after he see what Vidic is capable to do.:)
