lol @ Duke. Sunderland just beat Spurs 2-1 at White Hart Lane. i dunno about a step down for Malbranque. Sunderland have won as much as Spurs in the past, are a wealthy club as well. i reckon Spurs will struggle big time this season because they have no leaders.

Liverpool were very lucky although the game would have probably finished 0-0 if Boro didnt score. lol @ Villa. that team is incapable of keeping a clean sheet.

Of course no-one will enter the top 4. The other teams in the premiership just keep beating each other so no-one is good enough to come close.

Liverpool to be knocked out by Standard!

Also Cisse scored. Nice.

Sunderland has money?

Wow. :)

English clubs have so much cash it's not even funny anymore. Even more heartbreaking is watching half of the clubs pissing their money away on poor expensive signings.

It funny how Benitez has excluded Finnan from the Liverpool squad and now favours Arbeloa at right back. Arbeloa is absolutely useless. He was shocking yesterday and shocking last week. Finnan has to come back in. or even Degen.

Liverpool havent a chance of winning the league anyway. i have very low expectations for this season.

^^are you a liverpool fan? if Liverpool finished 5 or 6th it would be a disaster for the club. We could end up like Leeds if that happens, so no you dont hope that Liverpool finishes 5 or 6th. look we have 2 wins out of two which is good but i have my doubts simply because we have to play Benayoun on the left and Kuyt on the right. i cant see us challenging with those two players in those positions. This Dossena doesnt look a whole lot either.

Alan Hansen actually had a valid point on Match of The Day last night when he said Liverpool lack width and play too much down the middle.

^^yea because they have no real wingers

Kuyt is a mediocre striker who is playing out on the right. Benayoun is more of a central attacking midfielder not a left sided midfielder.Pennant is too much of a windbag. Arbeloa will provide nothing going forward. Dossena dosesnt impress me either.

Im reading today that Liverpool may go for Downing now. He is a good player but the most he is worth right now is 11 or 12 million.

The last good winger Liverpool had was Steve McManaman. he was class.

Indeed. I would prefer it if the actual champions got into the Champions League than a team finishing 4th.

Who cares. AC Milan have won 7. They are in the Uefa cup and rightly so.

Benfica wont be in the Champions League either. or Ajax. And they are past champions.

Just because Liverpool are past champions don't mean they deserve to be in there.

you mean like the old system? when there was only 8 teams in it. 2 groups of 4 with the winner of each group playing the final. That was much too short and there was a lot of one sided game in the group. then if you had 32 teams of only league champions from their respective countries, then you will end up with a horribly lob sided and boring tournament. Can you imagine if Real Madid or Man Utd played the champions of Liechtenstein? they would beat them about 20-0.

i think the top 2 or 3 teams from the top leagues should go through. Getting into the champions league every year from 4th place only covers up Liverpool's lack of progress in the league.

Not totally like the old system, But its like when a team finishes 4th and get to the Champions league over an actual champion. (this isnt a dig at Liverpool btw :p)

I pretty much agree with your last paragraph, its kinda what I meant.

And if a team finishes 4th, maybe they should have a playoff with another team who finished 4th. So Liverpool v Fiorentia or Atletco. This will also improve the UEFA Cup which used to be more entertaining than the Champions League.

Obviously really weak leagues should still have to qualify, but maybe they should get easier ties, over time they will get more money and more time to improve so we get more of a balance. England/Spain/Italy. That is the Champions League right now.
