Omnipotent Benevolence

I believe things like Twin Towers and Tsunami serve a purpose that is inciting The Whole World to remember God.

And that religion should be taught more in school rather than it being a 'taboo'

No offence, but that's very obviously an excuse. Afraid that people will question their faith after disasters like these, people claim that it's a message/warning from God. If God had to kill 170,000 people just to say "Don't forget about me" then that's not something I'd want to worship. That's a fucked up way to reach people.

I also think religious education is slacking in schools as well. In my experience Religion in schools is seen as a Taboo.
Children should be taught about religion, but I think putting too much emphasis on it will obviously influence a child's decision about religion and God in future years. But obviously as a religious person, you probably don't have a problem with that. I think if kids are taught about religions in schools, atheism should be covered too.

^ I take it you're an atheist or agnostic yourself.

A comment like that would certainly come from one or the other. I don't mean to judge anyone. The scriptures teach not to question God's judgements.

I totally agree with teaching alternatives to religion as well, a good point.

riiiiiiiiiight, if he wanted more people to belive and remmeber him, dont u think he would do something miraculas like suddenly free the people in africa from aids or have peace in the middle east, if he destroyed lives just to make people rememeber him then i think he should be best left forgotten.

I never said anything about God's intentions, that is beyond my limits of comprehension. It just sems to me that when something happens like a major disaster The media is full of people saying 'Where is God? Why would he let this happen?' And it's the people saying this who know nothing whatsoever to do with God.

In the most respectful way possible - bullshit.

IMO, religion has no place in schools. I do believe that it is helpful if children learn of religions so as to develop tolerance but teaching in schools tends to lend preferance to the dominant religion of that area & provide distortions of the minority religions due to a lack of knowledge/understanding. I suppose this would happen if parents taught also.

Still, keep religion out of schools.

If anything disasters like this just prove that there is no God, is it really beyond your immagination to believe that this just happened as part of a natural chain of events, like everything that happens?

Of course children should be taught about religion but they should be taught what it is, where it came from and who believes what rather than "there is one God and you must believe in the one that we think it is" like it was when I was at school. It's incredible that religion teaches us we have freedom of choice but in reality the method of religion is to take it away!

If children are given education about religion and a choice instead of being preached to since they are born then they wouldn't mindlessly follow whatever religion they are brainwashed into believing.

Religion - Cult, Cult - Religion, whats the difference except population?

Peace.

you cant teach religion in public schools, goes against the constitutions seperation of church and state, not to mention not everyone believes in god, therefore you cant teach it.

How can God be 'hella cruel' if he has omnipotent benevolence? Things may look bad from our point of view (we as humans) but what do we know? Its only 500 (approx) years since we found out the world wasn't flat!

Not teaching religion in schools at all sounds like the comment of a Satanist cult member. We got to teach it to some, if not all, and offer alternative classes.

When did I say I couldn't understand something?

I'm not talking about God as a whole, I'm talking about The subject title.

You said ' why does HE do something WE cant/dont.....' Speak for yourself please.

I put ' can I answer that?' not because I don't understand what goes does but because I can't answer on behalf of God.

You ask me why cant we understand (something that God does)(post #13) Why don't you ask him yourself? I aint gonna answer it.

Check again I never said I don't understand I said 'can I answer that?' Not out of misunderstanding, but out of - Go ask him yourself, I wont explain on his behalf.

You're confused and making false accusations
