Personally, I think the entire mindset is wrong, most people speak the language that they're most comfortable with, which it seems like they were doing. Now, if they were talking at you, and snickering and such, then sure it's impolite. But that should still be their right to speak the language that they are most comfortable speaking.
The fact that it is the United States Army is one of the main reasons why speaking other languages should be okay, the United States is built upon diversity (or so they say) so different languages should be embraced, not looked down upon.
Just because someone now lives in the states, they shouldn't have to compromise their heritage. It's wrong of Americans to expect them to do so.

I've also noticed words are being put into my mouth. I didnt say to for them to go back to their country. I told them that we can not understand them and they need to speak english. When they told me its offensive to speak slang, I told them that was silly since this is an AMERICAN establishment so why exclude everyone else for the sake of a spanish cliq?
For the record - any time a unit is formed up its a mission. There is no mission bigger than another, they are all dealt with professionaly with the same degree of respect. there fore, why continue saying 'we love the us army, but fuck you guys who arent good enough to speak spanish and be hispanic with us.'
The guys in the cliq I'm refering to have 'latino pride' tatted down their arms. If this was a white man with white pride there would be an investigation.
The guys have 'latino warriors' across their backs with bald heads. If this was a black or white it could be considered a racist move - which is prohibited in the Army Code of Conduct. I have no issue with diversity, but It does become an issue when we sit back and watch reverse racism take over.
Heres a good example of how 'taking care of our own' (race) has caused waves around the office.
There is a sgt here who is a female and hispanic. she is my buddie and i go to her house alot with her husband to play video games and BBQ.
She made it a point to exclusively work with other hispanice females, whom she also hangs out with - so they can speak spanish 24 hours a day and exclusively promote how great mexico is. Thats fine.
She gets another soldier in her section that's black and from Los Angelos who wanted to be trained up to become a sgt himself.
He was out of shape and needed extra work to lose wieght and learn army regs and all that. She ignored him and left him to deal with it all on his own- which really was her place to do since she is leadership her self. Yet her lil hispanic friend needed to go out dancing she she felt that they collectively should go together.
So I step in and take her soldier under my wing and train him up on Board Questions, Regs, and take him to the gym twice a day to lose his stomach. He got his promotable and will be promoted 1 Sept.
After this stunt I asked her about the issue on why she is selective on who she is professional with . She blew up a smoke screen since they were caught.
My comments about love it or leave it is because if you are only out for your 'kind' then why go to some where else where you need to look out for everyone collectively as a whole? thats stupid and will get someone hurt.

stop putting words in his mouth, peopleAlso - I believe that pride in any race is wrong. If its white power, black pride / latino pride its wrong. This is stating that you feel that perhaps you value that race above others - which is basically discrimination. regardless if the white power has more of a negitive context than latino pride, it's still has an established condesending attitude toward other races.
Plus I used the term Mexicans as the title of my thread. So what? They ARE mexican, from mexico who go to mexico on weekends. What was I supposed to call them democrates? English is the language of the US military, everyone who joins the US military signs the same contract. In formation or in any official capacity (other than translators
) you will speak English. It's not for you to really tell them the things you did but, you need to direct that sort of thing up the Chain of Command.

this is complete bullshit. U are racist for the fact of the matter that u can't accept people speaking their native language. So say u went to Mexico. Are u going to speak Spanish there? They won't expect u to, so shouldn't expect people to live the way U want them to either. Isn't this supposed to be a free country?
Babypac thats stupid. I would automatically expect to be treated differently by visiting mexico, but they would know I' m american and call it a day. But lets say I joined the MEXICAN ARMY and then promoted the US lifestyle..then I'd be told to go back to America right? or would the Mexican army tolerate me and my USA pride?
No it's not stupid. Do you think that some of these Mexicans in the army want to be there to serve the United States? Not a lot. I know so many Mexicans out here in Cali as well as blacks who resort to the military because they have no other route to go. Who gets recruited the most? Poor folks. The fact that they are serving to protect the country that is not even their native one, and to protect and fight for strangers such as your family should be the most important thing to look upon. Who cares about lifestyle? I wouldn't care. What US lifestyle would u promote that would disturb the Mexicans so much? The fact that u are bothered by a unavoidable thing called language is pathetic. If u hate it so much, why don't u personally teach them English? They would very much appreciate it.
it is against army regs, if your in the u.s. military speak english unless your mos (job) is lingquist (sp), i remember that shit when i was in the army, if your off duty thats fine speak what ya want but during duty hours or deployment unless your job is translator speak english that reg was made for a reason has nothing to do with being racist or trying to opress ones native language.
