Conspiracy theories are the new religion. It too is self-deception, only with the purpose to explain away all the worlds wrongs on one group of hyper-evil individuals. Maybe to absolve normal, ordinary people of such acts, maybe it's easier than believing that sometimes bad things just happen. These exact same conspiracy theories will probably be redistributed for centuries, regardless of who are in positions of power. Like religion, people take these theories and twist them to fit their own beliefs. It's the American Government, it's George W. Bush, it's big business, it's the Jews, it's the Muslims, it's the Martians. All derived from the same 'evidence'. And like religion, the thing that drives these theories is and underlying belief in something for whatever reason. If there was no 'evidence', most conspiracy theorists would probably still believe that the government was evil.

there are so many questions surrounding 911 and so much evidence that prooves government involvement that i think its cruicial for people to think for themselves. Look at all of the evidence and then decide what you believe to be true

This isn't about asking questions, it's about a firm belief that the government is evil, and finding any piece of information which might bolster this argument. Don't act as if the skeptics here are naive enough to not question things, we're just not obsessed with a fictitious secret society that implausably rules the entire world.

There's a big difference between rich and powerful families and one all-powerful secret society who rule the entire planet and are responsible for every major tragedy since the dawn of time. It's a ridiculous concept and I'm amazed anyone even entertains the idea.

the founders of the illuminati were free masons
they did teach yoga and sufist practices, it doesn't matter whether they were trying to counter religion or not
free masons existed way before 1600, there are different stories,

one story i heard for example says that the first free masons were the phoenician architects of the temple of king Salomon. After the temple was finished, Salomon ordered to kill all the masons who worked on it because he didn't want them to build any other structure of comparable beauty. Some of these masons survived and were persecuted... the became the free masons....

(of course, this is just a story, no one can know for sure where free masonry started, but i am sure there are lots of conspiracy theory books that talk about the origins)
