There is increasing talk among Black people these days about getting paid reparations from White people, because of the Slave Trade.
Black people need to be reminded that it was the Black African who created the Slave Trade, and it was the White European who ultimately used his power to outlaw slavery, and set Black people free.

First of all the writer, Sean Bryson, is biased. He is trying to make whites to be the victims of slavery and ultimately the hero who freed all the slaves. He is heavily biased against black and Jews. You can tell he is full of prejudicial, if not racist, opinions. This completely discredits what he says.
In this particular quote he fails to mention how because of European whites the slave trade grew to the level in which it did. This is not to take away from the fact that Africans were enslaving other Africans because it did happen. Slavery did exist because of colonization by empires that were going on not only in Africa but all around the world. It wasn’t until the Europeans arrived in the “new” world that the exporting of slaves for the purpose of pure profit began the great slave trade of which you all know of.
Now on to the talk of reparations; Bryson has his facts all wrong. Blacks do not want reparations because of the slave trade itself. Blacks want reparations because of the slavery that the United States legally institutionalized in the United States and the continuation of slavery when the rest of the world was abolishing it. They also want reparations because of the resonating effects that slavery continues to have today. I have no opinion on this so I won’t say I support reparations or not, I’m still debating with the situation.

You need to be careful of what you read. The way you write makes it seem as if you bought what is written in that website. You should not look to Bryson for information on the slave trade; it seems as if he knows nothing. Don’t even accept what I tell you, go on and do some research yourself, don’t rely on people like Bryson for your information.

Actually, the man's pure, naked facts are correct. The slaves were sold by more powerful African tribes. They had probably been captured, that was the usual way they got a gold of slaves back then. So they sold them to the Europeans, who used them in their own colonies. Then the smart traders of the bunch, most noticably the Dutch and the Portugese, used them as merchandise. Buying in Africa and selling in the New World.

Where the evil white man comes into the picture, and this does this Bryson chap neglect somewhat in this piece:

It is important to distinguish between European slavery and African slavery. In most cases, slavery systems in Africa were more like indentured servitude in that the slaves retained some rights and children born to slaves were generally born free. The slaves could be released from servitude and join a family clan. In contrast, European slaves were chattel, or property, who were stripped of their rights. The cycle of slavery was perpetual; children of slaves would, by default, also be slaves.

Point is, the Europeans treated the slaves 10 times worse than most Africans. Not only had a slave in African service more basic rights, slaves in European service were seriously maltreated. Basically, at least.

And it's that where the responsibility lies. Saying Europeans were responsible for slave trade is bullshit, they were just real bastards at it.

the problem i have with that is, yes slavery was terrible but i dont believe reperations are due why? because out of all the bullshit the u.s. did to different groups of people who got the worst deal of it all? The Natives, not only had their land taken but were slaughtered beyond belief, how many full blooded native americans are around now? very few infact in my lifetime i have seen the government lower the standard for people claiming to be "Native" i dont remember what it was before but i know now you only have to have less then a quarter native blood to recieve benifits i believe. While African Americans are in no danger of becomming extinct if you will, native americans are. sorry just my opinion peace

I think Clever has some really good arguments. The article is far from objective.

Kareem this isn't a thread about who got fucked more by the US or a thread about wich race is nearly extinct. It's like saying fuck the rhinos, whales are being much more slaughtered.

Of course there is going the be black guys profiting on the whole slave trade. Arabs were doing slave trade in Africa long before the Europeans, mostly female slaves that is. When the Europeans started to get imperialistic and wanted to colonize, the Arabs already had a system going on.
Europeans turned slave trade into MASS PRODUCTION. They made a local economy to a global economy. While slaves used to be spoils of war, they now where products to be shipped with the quality label "made in Africa". African slaves weren't looked at as human beings, even cattle got treated better. (European slaves weren't looked at as human beings either, they where just tools, property to be found on the land of their owner. Even Russia still had slaves untill the early 20th century.)
You had the US with a big demand for slaves, Europe as the partner with the connection and the local supplier wich where in the beginning Arabs and Africans.
But there were no Africans or Arabs cracking the whip in the US. If you have a history of a couple of hundred years seeing a white man torturing your family there is going to be anger towards that white man. Saying childish things like, " but the black man started it...",won't change much to what happened and isn't even worth an excuse.

The reason these facts are not that well known, is because till today European believe that African history started when they colonised African. There's no conspiracy theory involved of blacks trying to cover things up like Bryson tries to insinuate.

Today rich countries own the resources in African countries. Rich countries have been taking recources from Africa ever since they put foot on it. And yes slaves were also considered recources back in the days.

If you add up all the interest paid on the debt, you'll see Africa has payed her debt a long time ago. Motherfuckers just kept on asking the original debt, they knew Africa couldn't pay and enjoyed getting the interest Africa could pay.
