Navy Seals are specialized in amphibious assaults, while other SF groups like Rangers are good at blitzing and air assaults.

Heres a story i found about WW2 special forces

My grandfather's buddy tells a great story about being in North Africa. He was on sentry duty, just milling about, when he feels cold steel at his throat. He tensed up and thought he was going to die, just shut his eyes and started praying. Then he feels these fingers messing around on the side of his hat. Once the fingers got to the Rising Sun badge they had on the side of the hat, they stopped, and the knife at his throat disappeared. He turns around to look, and there was no one there, but tracks in the sand. Turns out it was a ghurka, making sure he wasn't a german soldier.

SAS are better than Navy Seals.

Fact is, Navy Seals got through Hell Week - where they are deprived of sleep & have to carry out all these tasks & shit, the point being, to build up their endurance & resiliance to the conditions of war.

On the other hand, SAS are taught how to kill someone with one shot, one knife wound, one snap of the neck etc.

Navy Seals breeds guys who can stay awake for a long time.

SAS breeds sophisticated killing units.

:thumb: I completely agree. The Waffen SS were possibly the most fearsome fighting force in WWII. Recognition must also be given to the Prussian army after the reforms of von Roon. Defeating two great powers (Austria & France) in the space of four years is no mean feat, not to mention the fact that the Prussia system of leadership is the system all modern armies, from 1870 up to and beyond World War II, were based on.
i gotta agree as much as i cant stand hitler an what he did, the SS was by far one of the best, had Hitler made a few better choices i think he probably coulda conquered europe an defeated the united states.

Hands down the Muslim army.

The army who crushed the Romans and put the Persians in fear. The army who destroyed the Visigoths. The first army that was morally superior when it faces its enemies. A army that defeated its oppenents despite all odds. Khalid Ibn Waleed (military genius) and 3000 Muslims defeated 100,000 Romans (army of Roman governor Ghassani ).

Heraclius who was at the height of his glory by defeatin' the Persians in an encounter was awe-struck when he heard the defeat. If 3000 Muslims defeated 100,000 Romans, then 30,000 Muslims who were waiting for him would not be so easy to defeat.

Muslim army (mostly infantry) defeated the Visigoth army of Roderick (30,000 excluding the large number of Cavalry on the Wadi-laqqa).

Defeated the Persians 2 times (again despite the odds). Up to 10,000 Muslims defeated 40,000-50,000 Persians. Three years later at the battle of Qadissiyah, Muslims defeated them again with an army consisting of 15-20,000 against 60,000 Persians.

And how can I forget Saladin who defeated the Crusaders and even earned the respect of his enemies (Crusaders). And then you got the battle against Napoleon, and so forth.

Unfortunaley, the compassion and mercy of the Muslims was their downfall. The savages (Crusaders, Moghuls) attacked and massacred the non-combatants. But they defeated the Moguls at the battle of Ain Jalut.

Dr Lebon:
"In truth, nations have never known merciful and tolerant conquerors like the Muslims."

A new Caliphate with with a new Saladin as the Caliph would no doubt keep keep these capitalists at their distance.

A question Yayha, do you believe that this "Muslim army" was superior to the Roman legions (after the reforms of Marius Gaius) or that of Alexander the Great?

^^ not the same era

the strength of the muslim armies were with the combined tactical use of archers, infantry and light cavalry.
At a time where most armies would use the archers in only the first charge, and use the cavalry mostly to attach the ennemy formations from the side, the muslims would use all their units throughout all the battles, which gave them an edge and often allowed them to defeat ennemies before they would come up with a direct solution.

I don't think however that the muslim armies were superior, their victories came at a time when islam was associated with progress and their main advantages came from good leadership and better tactics

A comparitave need not be based on the same era. And according to Yayha the Muslim army were "the army who crushed the Romans and put the Persians in fear", so let's hear his reasons why it's infintely better than Caesar's legions or Alexander's cavalry regiments.
